Has anyone ever considered converting a marlin 30 30 or another cowboy style lever action into a Grendel? Would it be possible?
Lever Action

Pointed bullets in tubular magazines do not usually work out so well. Operating pressures of the actions of the Grendel while lower than lots of rounds are still above what many lever actions are designed for though there are several that can handle the 50K PSI.
I would think some of the best possibilities are Savage 99, Winchester 88, Browning BLR all of which are use box type mags, bolt face would be another issue to over come along with 308 length actions.
The Rossi 92 would handle the pressure since it is made in 454 Casul (sp), but not sure it is long enough to contain the Grendel.
The Marlin Levermatic was chambered in 256 Win Mag and 30 Carbine and is detachable mag fed but think it would be too short to handle the Grendel.
The Marlin and Winchester 94 BigBore actions for the 375 Win, 308 Marlin and 444 are strong enough but tubular mags making for non pointed bullets, unless a spiral mag was used like in some of the older semi auto rifles had.
I have no doubt there are some gunsmiths out there that could make it work but would the effort and expense be worth it, Browning I bet could make a great little BLR hunting rifle in the Grendel if they wanted to.

That, coupled with the srap holdining the forend to the barrel, makes one really happy when the odd 1.2 MOA group prints on paper.
That said, I dream of a Savage 99-like lever in the Grendel.shootersnotes.com

A Savage 99 should be able to use pointed bullets just fine.
Too bad the rifle is nearing collector's item status, or one of us could re-barrel a 300 Savage to the Grendel!shootersnotes.com

I know -- it would truly be a sacrilege, but consider the greater good!Last edited by JASmith; 02-18-2016, 07:39 PM.shootersnotes.com

Wonder if one the horde might have a take-down model that could accept a new front end?shootersnotes.com

i have a prewar none takedown with sentimental value so that isn't a candidate but i did load the rotary mag with grendel rounds to see if it would work and it did the cycled just fine so no modifications to the magazine or bolt would be required at least on a 300 savage modelPunctuation is for the weak....

as for the takedown model the barrel unscrews and is held in place by a slot with the forend which then clips onto the barrel but to my knowledge none of the takedown models were d&t for scope so you would need one a take down model that someone had already modified for scope or mount irons to the barrel and run a peep or the like again to avoid trashing an original.... and ideal candidate would be a model from the 50s that was factory d&t that had had some sort of misfortune happens to the barrel like dirt in the bore and fired or something i would want the rotary magazine over the later detachable box magazine modelsPunctuation is for the weak....

if you want a 6.5 lever with out changing the bolt face, I have a 6.5BMR one of E A Browns converts, it uses 30/30 brass for a base case so any lever with a box mag. that has a 30/30 in there line up would be an easychange. The 6.5 BMR would be a great chose for that it is a 1/2 min round out of my T/C single barrel out 500yd. A winchester 88 6.5 would be a dream.
