So the next step from where I left off was to fill the pores of the wood grain. I wet sanded in more finish 2 times in order to fill the pores. Came out pretty good. Next step is probably the most daunting.
Checkering. I'm no pro at it, but I've checkered 4 stocks before this. So I'll draw up some patterns to use and I'll be posting pictures of that whole process in the next few weeks. Still gotta get this thing done by January to show my uncle the finished product.

If anyone wants to do a project like this I know of a store that sells mostly muzzle loader and antique guns and wooden blanks to make your own stock . It's a very interesting store . They sell canons and unique antique firearms . http://www.dixiegunworks.com/default...th=764_781_784

I have a new project to start shortly when the barrel arrives with a 1930's rigby styled stock to do in 30-06 but this one os for a friend in the US who I have done a few stocks for before.
It is good to see another enthusiast showing the process.

So, one of the most agonizing steps in my opinion, is laying out the pattern for checkering. Nothing like spending a bunch of hours making the finish as flawless as possible and then add cut lines to it. Ugh.
Anyway, I covered the for end and grip area with blue painters tape and sketched out some 3:1 diamond patterns on them. My grip panel will wrap around the top so everything has to be as near perfectly symmetrical as possible. I forgot to take a picture of that process. I cut out my pattern with an exacto knife, then used my pocket knife to deapen the outlines. Then used my course cut 60deg single cut checkering file to cut out the pattern and master lines. This is what it looks like now.PSX_20171129_154525.jpg
