As aside I am an old fudd like you and don't own a 6.5 Grendel in any flavor..
While I am not a wood blue fan I do own a CZ 527 in 7.62X39 and have zero complaints as it shoots very well with the cast bullets..
No feed or function issues either..

I was in love my CZ527 in 6.5 Grendel, till I shot it. Bullets key holed, would not hold zero, sat at CZ North american for 2 months. In defense of CZ America they were very gracious, it turned out that the barrel was way out of spec. Further the holes in the receiver for the scope mounts were drilled off center. Not what I expect for a $721 rifle. Would buy again if they have their shit together. Blued steel and walnut love it. A2

The scope is a done deal, The Nightforce NXS 2.5-10x42 Compact Riflescope w/ MIL-R reticle. Never had a Mil dot scope before, always used the WAG (Wild A.. Guess) method. It will be fun to learn (maybe) a new method. The mounts will probably be Warne QR for the CZ 527. The issue is the rifle. If we sell the house and move into a senior living apartment no guns!!! That will not set well so looking for alternatives, many issues to work out. Getting old is not for sissies! Was it the Statler Brothers that sang that 'life got complicated past 18'?

I had my 527 out this morning, wind rather brisk and chilly. I used range sandbags as I did not have room to pack up my tripod rest and rear rest, Just checking zero early I had a 1/2” 50 yd group then later at 100 yds 5 shots in 3/4” with a hot barrel, I’m happy with what is a lightweight hunting rifle.

Actually that statement is not entirely correct. The Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10 x 44 with EBR-1 reticle might be more bang for the buck. I read mixed reviews on the Vortex scopes in general. People either love them or say to buy a NIghtforce. The PST 2.5-10 x 44 seems to be in the love category plus the mounting dimensions fit within those given in another post as fitting the 527's action with sufficient eye relief. Only a trial fit will confirm. Primary Arms is supposed to have a winner in their 4-14 x 44 with the ARC-2 reticle.

Leupold 4x33 showed up yesterday and mounted. It was made for the 527 in those warne med rings. Turret block just ahead of centered between rings! Weigh's 9.5 oz with a standard 7/8" target elevation knob installed. Very happy now.

I have a 527 in the wee beast names Grendel. My favourite gun Ive ever taken hunting. LVX3i 3.5-10 with a new cds dial. AMAX/ELDM= 1/2'' groups without even trying. Super light gun with beautiful wood, trigger is crisp and when set its just silly good. The posts above are correct, its tight to begin with but an hour of running the action and its butter. The Grendel caught my attention right away after lookin at the numbers, where I hunt its a mixed bag (Grouse, rabbits, bobcat, lynx, coyote, cougar, wolf, Whitetails, Muleys, Black bears, moose are open at the same time) so wanted a versatile and accurate gun that wouldnt blow up a grouse or rabbit at 10yds but still kill a deer out to good distance. The 65G does just that, head shoot chickens and bunnies and 1000ftlbs to 400 yds. I took chickens and bunnies on the regular when out last season, a few yotes that dropped but didn't blow holes in both sides, took two mule deer, one close and one far, neither made it more that 10 yds. Soon Ill verify the CDS dial out to 550yds and then Ill be set, this gun is a forever gun.

For the record I dearly like my CZ 527's for target shooting and especially hunting. Now if I was not looking for a rifle for hunting. The CZ527 would be of intrest to be clear. Though the low recoil options would get the nod. 17 Hornet, 204 Ruger, 221 fireball & .223 All could be great choices.

When I was considering puting together my first 6.5 Grendel before available as a factory options being offered. I was speaking to a fella who had already done so. I was simply surprised this fella did not care for his custom Grendel due to the recoil compared to his other 527's. When he explained how he had become accustomed to shooting free recoil, adjusting to the 6.5 Grendel was truly a very different animal.

Then and only then I was able to relate to where he was coming from.

I agree! I was expecting less recoil also. You get a good sense of the horsepower increase over the .204/.223. I quite like it. In terms of horsepower or ft/lbs me/recoil energy the grendel is about .22-250 levels, right in the middle between .223 and .243. Maybe a little more of a push in it than the quicker snap of the the faster lighter say 95 gr .243 stuff.

I think it's ideal, it just enters the realm of "it sure feels like you're shooting a real hunting rifle" so to speak.
