    Rings/bases for Howa Mini

What rings/base setups do you guys like?

I saw a pic of someone else's rifle here that had Talley rings on it. I thought they looked great, and I've always heard good things about Talley.

Just recently put some Warne rings on a couple of my CZ 527s though. I found getting the scope level (a never-ending challenge for me, even if I get it level at some point it looks crooked) was much easier with that design.

This is going to be a hunting rifle; probably don't want to go the route of a one-piece Picatinny base, but it's not out of the question.

I use the Warne two-piece base and their rings as well. It works great for me and the two-piece base make for easy single shot loading from the bench when practicing.

I use the Outerimpact base since it is a one piece Picatinny rail. If I want to put a different scope on the Howa I can use one from an AR and not have to be concerned with the groove spacing being even which it might not be with 2 piece bases. The rings you show should work well and eliminate an additional connection between scope and rifle but changing scopes would be more difficult.

I settled on the Badger Ordnance .835" and Warne 20 MOA one piece and bedded it on my Howa (plus the GF and her two daughters). All of my rifles have dedicated scopes, so moving them is not a consideration.

Same here, I typically use dedicated scopes on my rifles, so easy switching isn't a big priority.

I stick with the lightweight talley one piece ring/base. Low and Ex Low both will work in the 1". For the light little rifles these are, I want as light as possible rings/bases and the Talley's are it for me. Might be able to get a hair lighter with two piece aluminum weaver bases and some of the cheaper aluminum rings, but the Talleys work well and look good IMO.

I like to have dedicated scopes as well but if you have 10 rifles, putting a dedicated Schmidt and Bender scope on each one means you could have a new car instead.

For what barrel contour and what size objective?

I have the HB and I'm looking at either a 40mm or 42mm objective.

I picked up the Tally medium rings for my HVB Howa Mini. I have a 44mm objective and it just clears the barrel with the scope caps on. I have read people complaining about the Tally lows with a 40mm objective. They arparently clear but just barely depending on where you mount your scope. The mediums will handle the 40 or 42 just fine.

Thanks everyone. Just ordered a set of medium height Talleys.

Yes, good point. I've been installing the Weaver re-designed grand slam's in 2-8X36, so a bit smaller scope than what is commonly used today. These 2-8's are about ideal IMO for the light handy concepts and really have excellent optics. Natchez has them reduced to $189 and I feel they are a hell of a deal at that price. Japan made and very clear.

Yep, those are an excellent scope and about the best deal out there today. MSRP is $590, most sell it for around $360 but Natchez has them for $189. I don't know how they do it.

I put one on the 6.5G AR I built for daytime hog hunting. With 2-8x I can stalk them in the close thick stuff and still hit 'em at a couple hundred yards out in the open fields.

They are about perfect IMO for the Howa Mini's. I think I have 5 of them, including one with the mzzldr reticle on a 50 cal 700ML. Awesome scope for my kids too as on lower power they are very easy to get a good sight picture in...maybe I should order another couple....

I'm debating a Vortex 2-10x40 Razor HD LH. Little more pricey, but I have a few other Vortex optics and I've been very happy with them.
