Is the Grendel boltface the same as the Valkyrie?

First post. Great forum.
I have been contemplating a project. Not sure if I want to go 224 or 6.5.
Savage has just released the 110 in 224. https://www.savagearms.com/firearms/...prairie-hunter I am thinking I could try that for a year or two then re-barrel in 6.5.
Would it work?

Yup, they are different. The Grendel is based on a PPC bolt face while the Valkyrie is based on the 6.8 SPC cartridge. PTG (Pacific Tool & Gauge) does make a PPC bolt face only that should be able to be retrofit to your Savage bolt if you wished to convert it to 6.5 Grendel.

To answer the title question, no. the Valk is based on the 6.8 spc/30 RemAR, the 6.5 Grendel is based upon the 6ppc/7.62x39. The 6.8 is a narrower brass 0.422", the 6.5 Grendel is 0.441".

There are some threads on here about converting a savage over to the 6.5 Grendel, so yes, it can be done. Might run into a few issues to resolve, however. I'll let other forum members chime in if they like.

For a first project maybe you should try doing a straight-up good quality grendel, in AR, or go for the howa bolt action or ruger predator bolt action, get some run-time with the cartridge. Then branch out to your heart's content.

Or go .224 Grendel rebarrel on a Howa Mini, with a mini in 6.5 Grendel as its brother!!

Savages are easier to rebarrel yourself than the Howa.
You could buy a Savage in 22-250 and later rebarrel to 6.5 Grendel.
Twist rates and chamber throating may be something you should consider if you are shooting 1000 yards.
You would get better ballistics and ammo availability on the 22-250.
Several people have reported the .473" bolt face works fine for the Grendel since the extractor moves far enough to engage the rim.
Mausers have open rim bolt faces and have worked fine for over 100 years.

It might because the grendel has the bigger bolt face.

Me personally I would want whatever caliber I'm useing to have it's bolt to have the proper boltface.

Likely? No. Not the way a bolt face is supposed to work.
With slip-slop? possibly, make-shift style.
You really need to be thinking in terms of 2 rifles, 1 for Grendel, 1 for Valkyrie.
There's more to good shooting than just the bolt face.

The 224 Grendel/LBC will out perform the Valkyrie by a bit, 50-100fps I think. Then, same bolt face and feeding and you can have your Grendel and a hot 22 cal.
