107gr SMK load for the Howa

    Hi Guys
Just thought I would share some info on my load for the 107gr SMK.
I have a heavy barrel Howa, and it shoots the 123gr SST well, but I wanted to try a light projectile, and get something a little flatter shooting for comps.
So I did my research and settled on the 107gr SMK, and then loaded up some different powder weights and ran them over the chrony.
There was distinct accuracy node at 29.3gr of 8208.
So a loaded up a batch of those and managed to get to the range late last week.
At 100 yards they basically just punch a ragged hole and are super consistent with repeatable accuracy out to 560 yards (the longest I can shoot at my range).
    Sorry, no pics.
It was raining and the target fell apart by the time I got out there.
    Anyway, just wanted to share.

Thanks for the info. I have some Midway factory seconds that are the 107g match kings. I'll load some up when I get the chance and share the results. I have the heavy as well.

I am using Federal Match Primers with Lapua brass.

Yeah, I have found that a lot of reloading data provided on this forum for the Howa HB in relation to projectiles and powder loads has corresponded either very closely, or spot on, to my findings.

How far are you seating these off the lands or OAL?

Maybe due to process consistency if they are following the process control standards other Japanese companies follow. Even though they use some crappy parts like the bottom/floor plate and magazines at least they are consistently crappy on every rifle But at least the barrel and action seem to be superb IMHO.

I'm not certain of the jump, but my length is max magazine length. So they just fit in the mag without the projectile touching the mag.

That's an accuracy node for me too in my Lilja 17.6" barrel with 8208 XBR and the 107gr SMK.
