    Cz 527 grendel varmint reviews

    Like the title says gents.

Who has the newer varmint model from cz? And what do you think of it.

Sold my howa grendel yesterday and the cam grendel varmint with the 25 inch threaded barrel is going to be my next toy.

Unless I hear that its junk lol.

Well, this has been up for several hours and nobody has replied so I will put in my two cents worth even though I do not have the latest version. Mine is the one that is not supposed to be in the US. It does not have the funky target stock it is similar to the American stock, but it does have the heavy 25.6 inch threaded barrel. There were two problems with my rifle. The inletting was exceptional generous but I solved that by installing pillars and glass bedding the action. I have only use factory ammo todate and the best that I can do is about 1 MOA. But a lot of that is me. I shake like a twig in a hurricane (might be my age, I don't know). The other problem is that with some magazines ( I have three), the second round does not want to feed. I have to bump the bottom of the mag and all is well. It only happens on the second round on one or more of the magazines. To be truthful, I have been so caught up in learning to shoot better that I have not done much in the way of sorting out problems.

Another issue is that only 5 round mags are available at this time. I seems that it would not be too difficult to make a 10 rounder by someone that was handy with sheet metal. The mags are very simple in shape with only one welded seam. All things considered, I am very pleased with the rifle and the cartridge.

The issue with the grouping is complicated because I have to shoot left handed due to a cataract on my right eye plus troublesome arthritis in my right hand making it difficult to tell how much pressure I am applying to the trigger. I hope that this will inspire others to comment. The rifle is very well made, in my opinion, and I am not sorry for buying it.

      Thanks for the reply sir.

Lol we are talking about the same rifle lol. The newer varmint model is the same action as the model with the big funky target stock but it has the American stock on it and the 25.5 inch threaded barrel.

I'm fine with 5 round mags. In fact I plan on flush fitting an extra mag for hunting.

Sounds like your follower is hanging in some of your mags. I will keep an eye on that when I get mine in.

I'm planing on trying the factory stock but will most likely drop it in a band c stock.

I will probably rebend the bolt handle so I can have more scope clearance as well.

The newer CZs I think all have the Mod that Calhoun was doing for years giving more bolt clearance. I did my CZ before they were available, 22 inch Obermeyer barrel custom turned so it fit the stock of the 7.62X39 carbine with the stock channel opened up to get rid of the notches for the rear sight while keeping the same 60 inch radius those barrels had. Like Sinclair said pillar and glass bedding is a needed modification to the 527s. the inletting is too generous on material removal IMO. Result is a rifle that cn shoot much better than I cn, even though .3 inh groups are common at 100 yards with reloads.

Yea I hear they changed the angle of the bolt but still hear that it needs more to get enough clearance most scopes we would use for 600 plus yardages.

Will for sure piller and glass bedding it if I keep the factory stock. But I will probably drop it in a b and c stock.

            What is a b & c stock?

It is not that I am displeased with the 5 rnd mag, it is just the fear that some day I will be out in my neighbor's pasteur and get attacked by a herd of ground squirrels. Five rnds might not be enough to keep from getting trampled by the vicious little critters.

I've had some issues with my 527 MTR Varmint - the big target stock didn't fit my action very well. Decided to just buy a B&C stock, picked up the varmint style one with the more traditional grip. The length of pull is much shorter than i had expected, and the balance overall with the heavy long varmint bull barrel is pretty poor. Works okay off of a bag, but is not great for off-hand shooting. I'm going back to the original stock and working on fitting it properly, and then pillar bedding it. Was very excited to get this gun, but it hasn't lived up to my expectations.

As far as the action goes, I've been able to get some good accuracy out of it with reloading, .6-.75 MOA. Makes me not want to give up on it, I just wish there were more options as far as stocks go. If messing around with the MTR stock doesn't go well, I may grab a Boyds stock next.

What you going to do with that b and c stock? Cut me a deal on it?

I will never buy anouther boyd's stock again, after the headache I have had with the one on the howa grendel I just sold.

I have a DIP 2MOA rail that I am changing out just flat rail if you want it A5 send me a PM, that will have the objective end of the scope a little higher. With it a Bushnell 6500 has no issues with clearance with I think medium rings but they might be the low rings.

I too am a fan of CZ rifles. And would like hear more about the 6.5 Grendel varmint. Not sure if I will get into a bolt action 6.5 Grendel soon, because I have too many projects now. But,I was leaning towards the RAP because of upgrades.Barrels and stocks are available in abundance and are affordable.
Problem w/CZ rifles is that upgrades are expensive.I have a few CZ rifles that I want to upgrade the barrels. But,no one makes pre fit barrels.

I've got nine CZ 527's, two of them are 6.5 Grendel. One of them is a Varmint MTR, yes the funky ergo stock one. I've pillar bedded it and worked up a load with 108 Scenar at 2750 and it shoots amazing. Easily a sub .5MOA rifle, it likes having the bullets jammed into the lands. I haven't done much load development with any other bullets, this one just worked so well and I've shot it out to 800 with excellent results.

I have the 527 MTR and did a quick pillar/bed job on it. She shot extremely well with Hornady black OOTB and is doing pretty well with handloads so far, but I haven't gotten out to shoot her much in the past several months
