Hello all. I'm on need of a 20moa scope base for my Howa that will work with top feed hinged bottom metal.
Any suggestions on one please.
Thanks
Briano
Your best bet is too buy the outer impact 20moa rail.
What you will need to do is install it and torque it down then while it's installed, cut away the rail section that runs over the action port, to clear your loading area.
You might check DIP's website to see if they make a MOA rail for the howa action like they make for the CZ action. The moa rail they make for the CZ action is made so it doesn't have any of its rail over the action port. Not sure if they make one like that for the howa action but wouldn't hurt to look.
MDT also make a 20MOA rail for the mini action. It has a recoil lug though so not sure how that would go if you are going to be cutting it. This is on my mini action Grendel.
I also have an MDT rail on my Howa1500 in 223 with the standard floorplate and have no trouble top loading it. IMG20200326172942_resize_3.jpg
I have a outer impact. Obscuring the magazine has caused ZERO problems or actually any issues at all. A one poece base if much more ridged as well. The gun has a removable magazine. Much different animal then one with a blind or even hinged floor plate.
Dont get hung up on internet lore. Decide if its a issue for yourself. Since more folks will
Complain before PROCLAIM, surely as Many folks have no problems with them.
So what your saying is the magazine can give accurate results. From what I read of course is there is limited ability to adjust OAL.
How are your groups with factory bottom magazine?
There is spacers that hawke sells that is 20 MOA inserts for the rings. I dont see why that would not work. A pic rail might be better.
Its difficult to top load the grendel, so i rather just turn it over and dump 3 rounds in the bottom and close the lid. Takes a fraction of time.. And if i ever need more shots, its easy drop it in the barrel. But i dont know a situation where you need to have 5 rounds at once. 4 shots should drop most animals on this planet

You can now get the same superior quality scope base that TacOps installs on their custom rifles. Remington 700 2 Piece Tactical Scope Mount "24" M.O.A. by TacOps.

But be aware that 2 Piece bases will leave you with very little flexibility for proper eye relief for ring placement in scope mounting, as compared to a 1 Piece Pic Rail.
I just purchased the MDT Picatinny Scope Rail (20MOA) for my Howa Mini. It is well made and the rail extends beyond the front of receiver out over the barrel for additional space for scope placement. I plan to scallop/machine away some of the metal directly over the ejection port to facilitate loading. I went to install the base for test fitting / mach-up of where to machine away metal. The forward most screw hole that secures the scope rings/base is located directly over the chamber leaving very little receiver metal before contacting the barrel tenon. I discovered a minor issue... the forward screw was bottoming out prematurely (extra shank exposed). The screws provided by MDT are all the same length so I will need to cut down one of them in order fit the front attachment position and not make contact with the barrel tenon. No big deal...just a heads up.
