Talley Lightweight rings for the Howa Mini Action 6.5

A question about the Talley Lightweight rings, I'm putting together a Howa heavy barrel action. Right now I have the Barrel Action, Stock on order is A Bell & Carlson Tactical Medalist Style 4 M40 , Bottom Metal on Order Is a Jefferson Outdoors and my Scope is and Athlon Midas Tac 4-16 x 44mm.
The rings I thought for this setup was the Talley Lightweight medium ring, but what I read on there website is the rings measure Medium: .500? Front .618? Rear does this mean there is a slight cant to the rings toward the muzzle?
How do you feel about the rings and would they work well on this setup?
    Thanks All.

The height difference is because the front and rear of the receiver are different heights. So no built in cant, just thicker at the rear to make it the same height as the front. No experience with Talley rings/bases but from all accounts they are quality gear

I've had no issues with Talley's... used them exclusively on bolt guns without a rail.

NO. But can let you know without trying that they won't work.

The 20 MOA cant between front and rear ring is machined in specifically for the short or long action Remington they are made for. The Howa, specifically the Howa Mini are different distances between front and rear ring and the cant will not work.

However, using these bases on a Howa Mini IS a really good way to put a number of crimps in your scope tube.

Very good. I have the Talley 740734 ring on order for the Howa Mini Action 30mm tube hope to be able to get enough elevation to go out to 800 yards. with a muzzle velocity of 2414 f/s Strelok has 800 yard @ 8.8 mil of elevation.

I have a set on mine. I love them. However, they stick over the action. I put them on the rifle, mounted the scope and admired how nice it looked. Then I threw it up to my shoulder a few times....awesome! Then I tried to rack the action, no bueno. I had to take a dremel tool to the bottom part of the ring that sticks back over the action to allow the bolt to lift. The top of the bolt handle is square. So when the bolt is lifted the arc that it makes needs to be relieved. Didn't take too long to get everything working. They really are nice rings and the 3x9x40 leupold looks perfect.

You could have reversed the rear base so that the longer section hung out over the loading port. Or, ordered the ones for a Weatherby Vanguard instead of Tem 700 and the rear base would have been the correct length and not hung over anything.

I could have but that would have thrown everything out of whack. The way it is now it's perfect. The turrets are almost dead center of the two rings. When I throw up the rifle I don't need to shift my face to get a full picture. But after reading adamjp's post I checked my target scope that I had on it during load work-up. 6.5x20 leupold had slight edge marks in the tube. I looked at the scope mounted on it now and everything looks kosher. Gonna run it as is. Must have at least 400 rounds though it by now.
