    6.5 Grendel and a .473 bolt face??

Will the 6.5 work with the .473 bolt face common on most center fire rifles? It would have only approx. .013 play on the sides (approx. .026 all together). Would this be too much and cause problems or should it run along fine? I was thinking about a .308 Ruger American rifle for a base rifle, I think the .223 rifle magazine will work in the .308 rifles and it should be fairly easy to modify the plastic feed lips on the plastic mags (I think). But then that is where I get in trouble sometimes, thinking that is.

I tried that on a Savage.

Works some of the time, but when pressures go up a bit, the extractor does not have enough authority to pull the case out.

The best bet is to get a bolt face for the PPC line of cartridges or for the 7.62x39. You may need to adjust headspace if the barrel is already installed.

Check PT&G for a PPC bolt for your rifle?

My .473" bolt face is working fine for my Grendel, so far, but I don't have that many rounds through it yet. I do have the PPC bolt head to install when I get around to it :-)

            That's what I did too!

The failures to extract started getting frequent enough to be an issue somewhere around 200 shots. Then I built up my courage and swapped the heads.

            Works great now!

I note that PTG now do a DBM for the Remington Model 7. Using AICS magazines or AR15 magazines.

Remington Model 7, PTG PPC bolt, PTG AR15 DBM and a suitable magazine, 21in medium sporter weight barrel, talley lightweight rings and a scope of your choice in a McMillan Edge fill stock.

In competition you would upset a fair few 308 shooters with your 8lb carbine.

It would be kind of hard to change the bolt head on the RAR.

You could solder a bushing on the bolt face to get down to the correct diameter and then modify a .223 extractor to work.

I know this is a late answer to this thread, but I called Savage as I "heard" a rumor that they were coming out with a bolt action 7.62x39. The tech said they had already started sending them out and I bought the bolt face for something like $24 from Savage. I bought a PTG bolt head in .223 for my Model 12 Savage for my .20 Practical, even though it wasn't needed and it mic'd perfectly and does a great job.

Did the tech say anything about magazines?
