    Troy Alpha rail install issue

Got the rail butted up against the receiver face and when I tighten up the screws, the handguard pulls away leaving a gap of about .020-.030". I tried clamping a removeable carry handle to bridge the receiver and the top rail on the handguard. I tightened the screws, released the carry handle and there was still a gap, only about .010".
Anyone have this happen installing a Troy alpha ?

    Thanks,
    Dr.

I have never, ever worried about this, but I can get 0.023" worth of feeler guage to slide between the rails on the handguard and the receiver. My thought is to get the rails as mutually level as possible by clamping a scope ring right on transition and then let the mounting screws and lugs on the handguard "float" it into place fore and aft. I don't see any reason to get it flush against the receiver.
