Grendel SBR and its performance comparison to 300blk SBR

I am busy now polishing up my current Grendel AR, but I start thinking about potentially doing an SBR/Pistol.

First of all, i never built any AR style SBRs or pistols so I have no experience in that, however; from some people i heard something like "AR pistols just don't work, not worth the hassle, don't cycle well, can trust your life to" etc.
And from similar people i heard that it mostly has to do with 5.56 round, and the 300blk does much better and 7-10" 300blk barrel not only cycles properly in AR but also is well suppressed.

    so my immediate questions:

    1) Does 7" to 12" 6.5G barrel also cycles properly in AR-15 platform? Can I build such short barrel grendel which *works* and to which I can trust my life if needed?
    2) what about suppression? is Grendel well suppressed in SBR when fired with heavy round subsonic just in a same way as 300blk, or not?
3)any comments on precision of short 6.5G barrels? (maybe someone did it and can say which grouping can be achieved @100,200...more?)
    4) what would be max range for grendel for different (short) barrels? anyone can point link to such data if it exists?

    thanks

Hello Horde: Just thought I would let you guys know about a test we did recently on Short Barrels. We tested: 7.5 Bartlien at 100 Yards. Groups averaged 1.5 Inches 2000 FPS 123 Match King 8.5 Bartlien at 100 Yards. Groups Averaged 1.4 Inches 2100 FPS 123 Match King 10.5 Bartlien at 100 Yards. Groups averaged .9 Inches 2200

      1. my 12" works and cycles just fine.
      2. Most suppressors have minimum barrel lengths for different calibers so you can only go so short depending what suppressor you have. Short barrel ars are louder. Mine is suppressed with a tbac ultra 7. I wouldn't shoot it without suppressor.
      3. Click the link for precision
      4. Max range has to many variables: ammo, length you choose, what your target is.....

This is probably the one area where the BO surpasses the Grendel. After all, this is what the Whisper/Black Out was designed to do; provide a suppressed option for the AR.

Its been a little while since anyone posted on this so i thought I would ask again Anyone come up with a action cycling 6.5 Grendel Subsonic Load yet ? I itching to shoot some coyotes with the grendel QUIETLY :):) Thanks Smoke

I agree in a SBR in BO is best. The BO was designed for max efficiency out of a 9in barrel. I build a pistol in BO with a 9in barrel. Also the BO was designed to be suppressed.

Best at what? Shooting subsonic sure. Hunting? I will take my grendel over bo all day. Ammo prices? Grendel.

The bo is nothing but a subsonic suppressed range toy.

IMHO I don’t see a SBR to be a hunting rifle. For hunting I completely agree with you 6.5 Grendel. I use my 300BO for HD, and I’m saving for a suppressor. I also only use heavy sub Sonics due to penetration. Now he asked about in a SBR so I gave my honest opinion, because of what my idea of what the use of a SBR is for HD. The BO excels with a suppressor which is great for HD or any CQB, and this is why IMHO the BO is best for a SBR. The BO being nothing but a subsonic suppressed range toy I very much disagree for the reasons stated above. I also handload so the BO ammo is cheap.

Im sorry you don't feel an sbr is a hunting rifle. My 12" grendel will put down any game i shoot at in florida ethically out to 300-400 yards depending what bullet i use which is 3-4 times further then most hunting shots are taken here.

I agree. Hunting out of a climber my 12” Grendel is perfect. I have had one of my 20” Grendel’s up a ladder stand and it was too clumsy for me.

                        (B) Trust your life? I would, but who am I to answer that question for someone else?

                        3. Regardless of how good the rifle is, I'm a 1 MOA shooter on a GOOD day.
On an average day ... I'm closer to 1.25-1.5
I've seen my 12' Odin shoot 1 MOA at 300 yards.

Man i just cant understand why you guys hate on the BO so much. Y'all sound just like the haters on the blkout forum talking crap about how useless the grendel is.
I have to correct the shit talkers about how useless the BO is for hunting. I have killed more deer with my 10" BO shooting subsonic than with all my other guns combined. Of the last 14 kills i've only tracked one deer that made it near 60 yds into the woods with a red trail following. It is one of the most fun guns to shoot that i own. Including my 4 grendels. Now that said my 12 grendel is a close second. As much as i love the grendel and promote it to others, i'm still a huge BO fan. You guys should really open your minds up sometimes here. Both are great for what they were designed for.

I like 300 Whisper/BO. Great little cartridge for suppressed use.

Have never shot it supersonic that I can recall.
