Just trying to get your guys opinion, I live in michigan and have some cold winters. My question is should I get the lw-15 lower. Reasoning for this question is if i do wear gloves it will be a tad tight and I plan to mount a bad lever on it and it will be an even more snug fit. Should I just save a bit more and get a standard lower and get a magpul trigger guard? its jusy hard to beat 100 bucks for a complete lower.

friend of mine picked one of the poly lowers in Vegas, looks pretty good and he put a 223 carbine set up on top of it and so far he likes it fine. as to the cold factor I would think if a Glock survives in the cold a LW-15 would, but that is a good point to check 1st. I've got no info on the trigger guards too warm here to make it a needed item.

In extreme cold weather conditions, I have seen Magpul polymer parts crumble-mainly the MIAD grips. I had this first happen to me in Finland in 2007 on a carbine of mine, and it was a surprise. I've also seen it on other guys' blasters, and LMT SOPMOD stocks, when mortaring to clear a steel case seized in the chamber.
Living in Michigan, with a similar extreme cold wet environment, I would go with a standard 7076 Aluminum lower, and a stronger pistol grip design like a standard A2 grip. The base of the 1st version MIAD grip I had cracked where the grip screw holds it to the receiver, so they changed the design from a conical screw, to a flat screw, and the MIAD design is not like that anymore.
You see a lot of "torture" tests on line, but never a cold weather torture test. The AR with the right parts actually is a very reliable system in extreme cold, and I see more malfunctions from AK variants than AR's in the snow and ice, as well as during summer. Go figure...
