AA barrel comming tomorrow and need tips on aligning gas port with clamp on gas block. Searched threads and didn't find what I'm looking for. Does anyone know if the new profile barrels come with a dimple foes alignment?

2nd,I think the dimples would be for a set screw type block, but as far as the clamp on, take a very fine pencil, and make an index mark for the gas port on your barrel and the gas hole in your gas block and align them. sounds simple but it works. hope this helps.

you can also plug up the bore with your finger and blow through the barrel to see if air flows through the gas tube in your receiver. Or you can get a small piece of fuel line or air hose and put it on the gas tube on the inside of the receiver just to check and make sure its all clear. Sounds dumb but at least you get peace of mind.

Clamp-on blocks don't need the dimple, as stated, and are pretty nice. You'll notice that when they make the blocks, they have to drill the gas port through the bottom of the block itself. If you locate the center of that bottom hole, measure the distance to the rear of the block, then do the same with the gas port on your barrel and the shoulder profile cut for the block on the barrel, you can align them.
What I've found though, is that you can back the block up to the shoulder, even though your ports aren't concentric, and will still have the same basic gas flow with most blocks on the market.
I've used:
VLTOR clamp-on
YHM low-profile
Sadlak low-profile
PRI low-profile
PRI flip-up sight/gas block combo
JP adjustable
Brownell's low profile
and so on...
I also test the gas circuit by plugging the chamber with my finger, and blowing through the muzzle, while listening for air relief out the gas tube in the upper.Comment
