Just suppose I want an A1 style handguard

With a adjustable gas block no front sight. Is there any difficulty I might encounter?

You need a front hand guard end cap. Normally the end cap aligns with the front sight/gas block and the gas tube keeps the hand guard cap from moving around. I don’t see how the hand guard cap could work with a low profile adjustable gas block. There might be some adjustable gas blocks that can use a A-1 hand guard I just not sure if there are any currently available.

I used a JP Enterprise adjustable gas block with a receiver height rail and it has enough mass to attach the hand guard cap or keep it in place. JP has apparently discontinued this adjustable gas block but Primary Arms shows an out of stock gas block of similar design. Here is a link to PA. Another option maybe to use a fixed gas block with an adjustable carrier key or an adjustable bolt carrier. I used an adjustable carrier key on one of my builds but it was way over gassed. The adjustable carrier key let me adjust the gas but once set I doubt I will need to change the gas setting. The Bootleg adjustable gas bolt carrier would work if you need to change the gas for suppressor or different ammo.

JP rifles makes a adjustable gas block front sight.

Mount it and then cut the sight section off and paint the cuts black to match the rest of the block.

Suppose I just used my low profile gasblock and drilled a hole in the end cap to match?

Do you want to free-float it?

You can free-float with some mods, using a DCM concealed tube with a different barrel nut.

Is it because you like the feel and bag-riding benefits of the original triangular handguards like I do?

I just like that style handguard in general. The first AR I ever handled had one. Pointed great, nice at the bench and reasonably light. I don't really need it to free float.

                    White oak national match tube

Make sure the barrel has enough shoulder on the gas block journal for the delta ring.

And don't fight it, love the front post. The reason it stuck around for 40 years is because it works very very well.

It’s what I’m doing with this 605B. Conclealed FF tube using a DCM barrel nut with the extended threads that are forward of the nut.

It will look like an old 1963 Model 605, but have all kinds of hidden modern features in it.

Think genuine parts Retro shell with actual pre-1963 furniture, old slick side upper receiver, chromed bolt carrier with no forward assist notches, as many small parts as possible from an old surplus kit, real 1960s ejection port door, but other performance-related top-end modern parts.

All the parts are on their way. Soon any mysteries will be asked about. Cool toy there LRRPF52.

What do you know they showed up today! Got that rifle shooting pretty good but am going to see if there are any issues using the ordered parts pretty soon.
