I just painted my muzzleloader with KG Gun Kote. I sprayed a base of Flat Dark Earth and then sprayed MS OD Green. I used shelf liner as a stencil. I sprayed the green in quarter sized dots in a staggered pattern. Then I went over the whole thing with a lighter coat. I was going for a snake skin look. It came out pretty well I think. KG Gun Kote is fairly easy to use and it is very forgiving. If you mess up, you can remove the bad spot with paint thinner before you bake it. It also air dries, so you can apply multiple colors quickly and without baking between colors. My stainless barrel had a satin finish, so I didn't grit blast with aluminum oxide. I just degreased with brake cleaner a few times and pre-heated it in the oven.

What I learned
1. KG Gun Kote is very forgiving when applying.
2. If you mess up, you can remove the bad spot with paint thinner before baking.
3. It does highlight scratches in the metal. Sanding would be a bad idea.
4. Anodized aluminum, phosphate steel, and satin stainless are sufficient for good adhesion.
5. Gun Kote is hard. I had a few fuzzies stick before I baked. They are now a permanent part of the gun.
6. I used and external mixing air brush. The nozzle is less likely to get clogged. I got the quick-change kit from Harbor Freight
7. Gun Kote is good at dissolving stuff. It started to soften the plastic canisters that came with the kit. I got some glass ones from Hobby Lobby. It doesn't seal perfectly, but it does the trick.
8. Since Gun Kote air dries, you can apply multiple colors and use stencils without baking between colors. You also can remove tape and stencils before baking, so they don't need to withstand high temps.www.FriendsvillePrecision.com - AR15 Dry Fire Device

Thanks for all of the positive feedback.
I sort of stumbled upon using the shelf liner.
Watched some videos on Brownells, and got the idea to use burlap. I happened to see the shelf liner, when I was getting some burlap, and decided to try it too. Burlap didn't let enough of the paint through. I was also afraid it would leave a bunch of dust. The shelf liner stencil just worked out awesome.www.FriendsvillePrecision.com - AR15 Dry Fire Device
