Hey guys so i know a barrel, bolt, and bare upper receiver cost 425. But how much does everything else cost for a complete upper? Anyone know a ballpark price on what i should be looking at?

volcomdork182: Unfortunately, your question is like asking how much it will cost to buy a car. The answer is anywhere from a couple of hundred dollars for a junker to over $300,000.00 for a Ferrari and everything in between depending on what your budget and wants and needs are.
You may want to start your homework investigating what you want & need by looking at what's listed in the classifieds section here on the forum, even the sold items just to get an idea what is available.
Then you may want to look at Alexander Arms website( alexanderarms.com) for ideas and other websites also( Larue Tactical, Midway Usa, Brownells, Rainier Arms, Bravo Company, etc.) just to name a few to get more ideas and then narrow down what you like and what will work best for you based on what you will be using your finished rifle for.
Once you have narrowed down what is of interest to you, feel free to ask any questions you have about quality, ease of use, etc. as you will get plenty of input to help you decide.
Good Luck with your build and welcome to the Horde.

~$ 65 for a gas block and gas tube.
~$ 35 for a muzzle device.
~$150 for a free float handguard.
------------
~$400 total
+$425 for your specified barrel, bolt, and bare receiver
------------
~$825 total rough estimate
Prices would obviously vary based on your preferences. For example, the price I indicated for a handguard could run anywhere from half as much to more than twice as much.
You'll also need mags, and sights or optic.
Add the cost of assembly tools too if needed.Drifter

Leopard: haha yes i totally understand that. But I'm trying to stay within range of 7-800 for the upper so nothing too special. And getting an exact price wouldn't help me too much since My buddy owns a gun shop and i get parts a little cheaper and the use of his tools when needed. I just needed a rough number to know what to expect and to take in enough cash.
Drifter: Thank you that's exactly what i was looking for.

The upper parts kit (springs, firing pin, spare extractor, etc) will set you back another $20 (Got a couple of sets ad JSEsurplus for that) Basic charging handles, around $20. If you picked up the AA upper, it'll already have a dust cover and FA installed. If not, figure another $35ish. FSB anywhere from $25 on up. Delta ring assy and assorted gear, around another $40-50. Gas tube, $12-15 or so. forearms are all over the place from $30isth to several hundred.
Sights will run you anywhere from around $80 upwards of $1000, depending on what you're after.
Honestly, if I do a budget build, I'll pick up a Del Ton complete upper for around $400 that comes complete with everything except a rear sight. Swap the barrel out with your 6.5, and you're in at around $750, a good hundred or more dollars less than building from scratch. Squirrelly, I know, but I've done the math over and over and over, and can't get individual (reasonable quality) parts out the door anywhere near as cheap as picking up a complete upper and just throwing the barrel away
