Shooting Hogs During Their Security Checks

Not all hogs will give you this chance, but often times lone hogs come in to a feeder or water hole area and will be on their guard, stopping every few feet to assess their security, sniffing the air, listening, etc., then proceeding and repeating a short distance later. Sometimes you will get sentinel hogs in sounders that will do the same thing even when all of the other hogs are scurrying around. This is when I really enjoy shooting the hog. First, the hog is usually quite stationary. Second, they often present something good to shoot (high head or at least a nice broadside). Third, I like the irony of beating them when they are most on guard.

This hog was a fine example of this...

another great video, 00Spy. and the Buzzard Preservation Society should send Angry Bird a hat, or a pin, ribbon, plaque, or something in recognition for your contributions.

You know, Reaper, SST bullets just flat out work well and usually with deep penetration or overpenetration. They sometimes come apart, may create multiple exit wounds, but they work.

LOL, Angry Bird rides in the truck or cart, but does not accompany me when I am on foot.

The ping is there. You just got to listen closely. Besides, you can see the 3 pronged pinger on the opening photo.

I will tell you what...I am torn between carrying my big Grendel with a 20" heavy barrel and nothing lightweight on it and my daughter's Grendel with the 16" pencil barrel and the lightweight setup. Both are good performers, but each handles differently and is ways that are quite nice.

I have a variety of Grendels in differing configurations. (16 inch 18 inch 24 inch barrels). No doubt, that to hunt with, especially at night or on running targets, the 16 inch (really a 14.5+flash hider) lightweight thin barrel is better. For me.
The 18 inch is good, but handles better when a smaller lighter scope is on top.
The 24 inch heavy barrel ...not so good to hunt with for me. Its fine to punch itty bitty holes in paper with.

That was great, especially the coverage of zeroing on steel. Nice to see those hits.
