As another option, this gentleman is a former co-worker of my brother. He makes some pretty nice blades as well.

The professional knifemakers are do put out some very fine knives indeed with some aproaching and becoming art in the beauty and complexity they show but these that I make are just simple working knives

And your specimens are very nice indeed. I have a local friend who builds knives as well. I personally don't have the patience or aptitude for such fine work.
I wanted to share Steve's knives in case anyone might be interested.
I'll agree that the wide blade skinners aren't really necessary for deer and probably the goats in your part of the world. One can pretty much pull the skins off of deer around here. That conventional skinner worked really well for what I was using it for then.

I grew up next to the family who makes Ruana knives and can say your knife came out beautifully. Well done! Rudy Ruana started making knives from car springs, and used saw blades from the old Anaconda lumber mill in Bonner Montana. Today their knives are renowned world wide and demand a premium. We use to trade our elk horns to them for a new knife as they used them in their knife handles. http://ruanaknives.com/
Rudy Ruana made a milling machine from an old car steering box that worked for decades. Every grinder, belt sander used in his shop was made by him. You remind me of his innovation. Thank you for sharing your knife making process. Great job.

VG is a wizard, It finally came to me. During our PM's- he sent the extremely long version- asked me if the Grr hoard would be interested in this++Heck yeah!!!
I mentioned to edit it down a bit..
Beautiful knives, great source of income- part time- for a retiree.
He asked me many questions when he designed the GRR MAX. ,,
So I asked him a few on my design for the AR. It would be --75% of the MaX. We ran numbers back & forth, looks like a go.
He would -maybe make you a knife if he has the time. I need a new skinning knife.Last edited by sneaky one; 01-13-2017, 11:09 PM.

Another one
A couple of years back I started on what would become the definitive knife for my needs on the hill and to that end I drew up a design and gathered some bits together that I wanted to incorporate into it.
The handle slabs were from walnut that came from I tree I cut from my fathers yard about 35 years ago
The ebony was left over from the forend tip on my custom 7x57
The copper rivets come from the bar mower teeth from early farm work I did and the brazing rod would be used to make hidden pins to hold the ebony bolsters on

Of course it was supposed to be the last one I would need but there has been many since then so I will gradually post up a couple more and then maybe some of the rifles I have built before and after the little Grendel-Max. Lots of Lee Speeds, mausers, martini's, sako and a vz33 mannlichers plus a few others as well.
Will just keep posting a few of my projects as long as there is interest and some conversation to be had on methods, styles and ,materials etc
There dosent seem to be a section that would suit these posts but I figure that most of us into hunting would have a passing interest in these things.
