I got to try out the jig today, getting the profiled blades ground. I checked that the jig was at 13 degrees and set into the main grind with a 60 grit belt and finished with 240 before a 360 hand sand and stamping thier serial number on the handle. They are at about 01 edge but with the scandi grind I think I can get away with that for heat treating but time will tell on that. I can't go any further with them till the torx screws turn up but hopefully they will arrive this week.
It's on post 446. I love that rasp look, by the way.
The top one is Dans and the lower one with the horizontal carry sheath is off to the northern territory in Australia for duty on buff, scrub bulls and pigs
Good call on the pin color ideas. Garry.
I asked for SS steel pins, originally. So this unit won't see as much action as your goat cleaning knife. So, Not a worry upon durability on pin strength. It will be all good.
Thanks again . You are a true craftsman in these times of - nobody wants to get a hand dirty....anymore..
I'm still in hands on biddness. Cars- structural issues- etc.
From across the Pond as you say it--- Big hugs to you and the wife! Say Hi to doggie- von gruff ---also dude !
Thanks rabiddawg. Thnere will be no replacing Bruno. He has/had burrowed so deeply into our hearts and lives that neither Lynette or I can contemplate such a loss again.
Having knives to play with is a distraction that I am thankfull for and with the new safari knives to work through it gives me something else to think about.
This is another one I have been asked to make for a guy who has another one of my knives. He wants a copy of the Stromberg knife. 7 1/4 in blade with scandi grind
Interesting handle that will be another new approach for me.
I have been in Wyoming on a job and have missed all of your new posts and projects. Sorry for the loss of your buddy. We just recently lost our family member Wolfgar. Needless to say we all cried like a baby including myself. He accompanied me every day and every place I went. Only another who has such a companion will understand how painful it is. Once again my sincere sympathy for your loss.
