Long weekend hunting with some friends. It seems that with higher than normal winds, the hogs were just not out as much and we had trouble finding any. We finally came upon this small group and were stopped by a cross fence that was too tight to squeeze through and the posts too wiggly for use to try climbing over. The gate was 300 yards or so in the wrong direction and we didn't want to loose the hogs, so we got as close as we could and lined up on them. In the process of moving, I lost track of the 4th hog that had moved way off to the right. Unfortunately, as the guy on the right, that was to be my hog, but since it disappeared on me, I lined up on the next right-most hog that was Matt's hog. It went down and I continued to shoot it until it stilled sufficiently. I think Matt shot it 2 or 3 times as well. The hog I should have shot got away clean. In the confusion of the moment, Dave's hog that had moved behind a tree apparently ran by us and it was a surprise to the rest of us when Dave called it out.
Dustin hit his hog, but it took off running back behind the trees. About the time I thought there were no more targets in sight, Dave called out a hog up on the hill that was moving away. It was Dustin's wounded hog. Using the Force, my lucky penny, and a rabbit's foot my daughter gave me, I managed to roll the runner on the 3rd shot and hit it a second time when it stood up again.
Fortunately, Matt wasn't bothered by my assistance on his hog and Dustin was happy his hog didn't get away.
