I built a hunting specific rifle back in the spring using the 18" Faxon group buy barrel. Today I took my first whitetail with it--a spike-ish 3 pointer (tasty meat!). Bigger bodied in person than he looks to me in the picture. Keep in mind that I'm 6'5" tall!
The shot was about 120 yards from a slightly elevated position. The buck was walking broadside in a hurry. I whistled and took the shot when he stopped. He dropped immediately and started spinning on the ground. I tried to take a second shot (thinking he was spine hit), but thankfully I missed. The only wound I could find (the entrance wound) looks like an exit wound. The lungs were both blown and the heart was clipped around the atrium. There was no exit wound on the opposite side of the ribs. I was using a Hornady Custom 123gr SST factory load.
