Well just got back for a weekend anything hunt in my home parish and town down in southwest louisiana.
Sadly no pics of the kills but here goes the run down.
Rifles used.
Howa mini 20 inch-buddys sons (Just sold it to him)
Ar grendel with 18 inch JP barrel-buddys (used to be mine)
Ar grendel with 16 inch AA barrel-mine
Ammo used
85 grain Maker handloads- ar and bolt action
120 federal fusion
So I'm driving down Friday and my bud is doing some scouting and setting camera's. I call him and he says he just drt'd a 80ish pound spike. He used the howa and the 85 Maker handloads I used to take my doe like a week or so ago. Sold him the rifle early this week.
So I get there, we quarter it up and then do a 25 yard sight in on my 16 inch and the new viper pst 1-6 I put on it. I grab my gear, change into my camo and hit the woods. Find my spot, put out some feed infront the camera. Sit maybe 20 to 25 mints when a doe drags her 120 pound 3 point swamp donkey boyfriend into range.
He was facing me head on with just the slightest quarreling away body postion. I placed the shot just ahead of the neck/body junction. He dropped in his tracks. When we skinned him the bullet traveled 22 inches of deer and only contacted one vertebrate. Completely destroyed it, basicly severing the spine. Bullet did not exit but was broke out and sitting under the skin on the offside.
Saturday morning my buddy drops a 120 ish pound boar with his 18 inch and the 85 Maker handloads. We rolled that off in the swamp for the critters to eat. I didn't get anything saturday.
This morning we make a quick hunt, I seen zero but he got a nice 60 ish pound sow for the pot.
All shots were between 25 and 60 yards.
