My Grandson?s First Deer with the Grendel

This week I managed to get my Grandson his first deer along with the help from the 20” Lilja AR I built this year. 129gr ABLR w/26.8 gr of AR Comp at 82 yds performed well as did my Grandson. He is 12yrs old and handled the Grendel with ease. The ABLR dropped instantly.
I’m definitely a proud Grandfather!

Congratulations on the deer. My nephew killed his first deer with me using my H&R 20 gauge slug gun. He got my gun for a Christmas present and still uses it today. Might be something to think about wrapped up under the tree this year.

What velocity are you getting with that load?

So far my highest velocity with the ABLR has been 2304fps with a magneto speed. Honestly I had expected about 2350 but never achieved it with the few rounds I fired. But the barrel isn’t very old with very few rounds through it. I had swapped a Satern Liberty out with the Lilja barrel and was not able to get much range time, consistent accuracy was my goal going with the Lilja and I achieved that.

With the ABLR expansion threshold and BC, it really doesn't matter.

You end up with higher impact speeds and energy than a lot of other cartridges, with more than double caliber expansion and significant weight retention + penetration.
