250 and 215 Pound Boars Dropped with Barnes 120gr TSX/TAC-X

I was really lucky last night as I spotted a boar around 700 yards away, but then had another, larger boar come running out in front of me during my stalk.

I didn't grab as much video as I should have because I didn't want to lose the boars on the other side of the fence, and I also party fouled DNS and HuntTXHogs as I didn't bring anything out to try to recover the one bullet that stayed in the first hog shot.

So all in all, another crappy video. However the initial results of the Barnes bullets is promising. I'll need to shoot a few hogs in more traditional places (boiler room) and see if they expire as quickly as they do with the SST before I'm totally impressed.

                  digler1883,
just curious of what your load data is? how does it group? and by the way, good shooting.

Barnes TSX bullets are usually good for expanding (this is off the top of my head without looking it up) down to around 1800 FPS... However that doesn't mean that you are going to get a lot of expansion at that velocity. Still, a .264 diameter hole through both lungs will kill something, but you are going to be tracking for a while and I'm not ethically inclined to try it for grins.

At my velocity (2,390), which is a moderate and not hot load, I'd limit myself to 200 yards for an opening shot (runners are fair game as far out as I can hit them). At that range I'd still be close to 2K FPS and 1K ft/lbs.

Of course, you will always hear from guys who routinely kill hogs and deer out to extended ranges with any cartridge...I just ask that they film it for me to see sometime...

I'm using 28.5gr AA2520 at 2.257 COL, so my velocity is fixing to drop as the weather cools off. 2520 unfortunately is pretty damn temperature sensitive, but can get you some good velocities during the summer before you run into pressure signs.

I'm going to attempt to post the only three shot group I fired with this bullet...if I can't get it to show, it was about 1 MOA at 100 yards. *** My rifle has basically grouped every bullet I've tried with AA2520 into 1 MOA or better*** The scope I was using was actually my thermal, so precise aiming into the center of a 2/3 IPSC wasn't really going to happen.
