Wondering how well they work, will be hunting big woods and very thick brush. A long shot will be 50 yards. No night hunting on this place but oddly a lot of activity in the daytime.

I would go with a 1 or 2 MOA dot and nothing larger.Kill a hog. Save the planet.

Plus 1 on the holosun. I have the 507k on my carry pistol. Haven't had it very long, but I really like the choice of reticles. The circle dot for quick acquisition up close, the open circle to de-clutter the screen if needed, and the small dot for longer range. So far I am happy with it.When a man's ways please the Lord, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him.

FWIW:
I have two each Comp M-2's that I got fifteen years ago. I keep batteries in them all the time. I have taken them out and used them, put them up and six months later they turned on and held zero. They are very user friendly to zero too. You can actually feel and hear the clicks.
Of all the dot sights I have owned, those Aimpoints have been the most durable, most able to take really bad weather, most able to take a beating, and had the clearest dot. Since it is in a tube, it has flip up covers. These are really handy when a guy is freezing rain, snow, or simply a drizzle that goes on all day. I have flipped up the ocular cover and used it with the 'occluded eye' technique almost as precisely as both covers open. Another big plus is that you can turn them on and off, adjust zero, wearing gloves. Submersible to two atmospheres I believe. Very good insurance IMHO. For hunting or combat purposes I don't think there is anything better.
Looking at the Aimpoint catalogue, seems like the Patrol Rifle Optic comes the closest. $450.00 is pretty much on par with the really good dot sights. Surprising to me because a number of years ago I was looking at the Comp line of dot sights and all were over$1K.

+1 on Aimpoint.
The low power usage on the newer models are fantastic with battery life, especially when compared to EOTechs. I have four Aimpoints going back the the original 7MOA-dot 'Comp'. Also have a PRO, which if I remember rightly was priced for smaller disciplined bodies like Police, who do not have the budgets national militaries do.
Great for less than 50M, but I would not recommend them if there's any chance your quarry will be greater than 100.
