    Combat Seat?

    Something I've never seen before.

At the beginning of the video there is a soldier wearing on his backside what I initially took to be a hard armor plate. (Later on, more soldiers can be seen with a similar arrangement.) I thought that seemed like an odd place to be carrying armor.

However, it appears I was mistaken about it being body armor. Judging by the segment at 13:27-13:33, it looks like the "armor plate" is actually a seat pad to allow the soldier to sit on the ground without getting his butt cold/wet/muddy...

P.S. At one point they sure made a lot of use of their UBGLs, like a mini artillery battery (8:15-10:44). "Okay, guys. Let's fire off all of these grenades so we don't have to keep lugging them around."

Some turkey hunting vests have a seat like that. It makes a big difference if you have to sit still on cold/wet ground, although there are obviously other alternatives.
