Influence of the Colt Advanced Combat Rifle on The M4 Carbine

I was looking at some videos on the old ACR program, with particular interest in the Steyr and Colt rifles. I remember the program when they ran it, as I was a huge follower of any new small arms developments.

It's been noted before that Colt's ACR submission has several features that ended up on the M4 and M4A1:

Flat top upper receiver with rail attachment for a carry handle/rear sight housing, or Elcan optic.

New carbine stock with sloped cheek comb.

It also had ambidextrous selector controls. This was 1986 when the trials were conducted, and no submission was found to offer significant enough advantages over the M16A2, so the project was cancelled, but it's interesting to see the influence on the M4/M4A1 carbines, and the SOPMOD stock, as well as after-market selectors that have now finally made it onto the M4 PIP.
