    Although this has been discussed in other NGSW threads, the telling part of this video is the line: "We see this more as an ammunition program than a weapon program." When this video came out last month, it confirmed that the reason the GD submission was a bullpup was that its cartridge ran at conventional pressures. The only way to get the velocity required by the Army was to use a long barrel.

    A few years ago I saw a proposal to use a neckless polymer case to allow existing 7.62 NATO weapons to use sleeker, higher-BC bullets. Once you remove the neck of the case, the ogive can move farther back. That cartridge would have traded some muzzle velocity for speed and KE at long range, though.

      You need to go to a forum about 6.8 mm cartridges. Or get involved with the Thread that Stan is supervising on the next generation of squad weapons.

      Do not start another thread on the 6.8 unless it is in context with the Grendel.
