I think you have it backwards. You would need less can with the longer barrel. That is why LRR stated that the 5" can is loud on the 12" barrel but quiet on the 20" barrel. The longer barrel has more volume for the gas to expand in before the bullet exits so the pressure entering the suppressor starts lower. The speed of the bullet is not the issue.
