First Grendel (18" Faxon 65G Group Buy)

Hi, I finished my second AR and first Grendel build this evening. I grabbed one of the last 18" group buy barrels in January and have been accumulating parts for the last few months. Next up is a lightweight scope (leaning toward a 2-7x Leupold or Redfield since I'll be using it for deer <200 yards mostly). Unloaded it weighs a hair under 7 lbs, but the barrel profile and hand rail make it seem even lighter. The balance feels great. I can't wait to mount a scope and take it to the range.

    Build Components:
    • Stag Arms Stripped Lower Receiver
    • BAD ENHANCED PIN SET
    • MAGPUL POLYMER TRIGGER GUARD
    • BLK RADIAN TALON SFTY SLCTR 2 LEVER
    • BCM GUNFTR STOCK KIT MOD0 SOPMOD FDE
    • Strike Industries Enhanced Bolt Catch
    • Strike Industries Enhanced Magazine Catch
    • LaRue Tactical A-PEG Grip FDE Smooth
    • LaRue Tactical MBT-2S Trigger
    • Spike's Tactical AR-15 Melonited Black Mil Spec Gas Tube
    • BCM AM4 AR-15 Upper Receiver Assembly
    • Custom AR Dust Cover (www.customardustcover.com)
    • Radian Weapons Raptor-LT Ambidextrous Charging Handle
    • Toolcraft 6.5 Grendel Bolt Carrier Group
    • Aero Precision AR15 ATLAS S-ONE M-LOK Handguard 12"
    • CMT J.A.G. .750 AR Gas Block
    • Down Range Products Barrel Thread Protector 5/8 X 24
    • Faxon 18" 65G Group Buy Barrel

    And now for the pics:

Thanks! I used nail polish and cleaned it up with non-acetone nail polish remover. It's easy to find, relatively cheap, and comes in lots of colors (more than I imagined!). I also read somewhere that it's not affected by gun solvents and oils. My other build just has color fill on the safety roll marks and has held up through several cleanings.

Off topic, but your photo prompted me to share my Ron Paul experience.

Was a delegate to the Minnesota Republican State Conventions in 2008 and 2012 stumping for Ron Paul. Long live liberty!

Back on topic: Where's a good deal on that Downrange thread protector?

Cool! I did a little campaigning down here in TN, too. I've not had the privilege of meeting Dr. Paul, but I did talk with Rand at a local rally. It was before he ran for the Senate. I remember that he brought one of his kids (I brought mine too...and we did homemade t-shirts!).

I ordered the thread protector from Down Range via eBay since it was one-click ordering. $9.99 shipped either way. Here's the product page.

Really nice looking 6.5 Grendel, let us know how it shoots! I really like the way my 16” and 18” Faxon GB builds turned out. Your 18” build ought to make a dandy hunting rig! I really like your Monster logos and the way you highlighted the printing, looks real classy.
