I have tested raw 6061 aluminum as well and have achieved an engraving depth of .004" per my dial indicator.

just a hobby diode laser. xtool d1 pro with a couple different laser modules. 10w, 40w, and the ir module that can do metals. air assist is coming from an 8 gallon husky compressor. should be able to do things like etch patterns directly into a hand guard, do checkering patterns/stippling in wood and plastic grips, make offensive license plate frames (i have a really good ATF inspired one I came up with). Maybe get bored and make a speaker or amp cabinet for other hobbies of mine.

How deep does it etch? Will it go .003" ??? That's what's required on frames and receivers. Look good! Looks deep enough to my untrained eye!
