    Lapping rings?

Are you guys lapping one piece scope mounts?

I'm looking at the following mounts:

    AADMounts
    Larue
    AD
    Bobro
Spuhr (lots of cool factor on these but too expensive)

I'll need a 20 MOA and I'm really leaning towards the AADMount. Prices being close, I'll probably go with it.

But the AAD looks to have more contact area with the wider lugs and being one piece, I don't know if I see a real need to lap the rings. What do you guys think?

I am useing the RRA one peice at the moment and sadley to say I had to lapp them, but the ones you listed from what i read are better quiltity mounts.

If you have the lapping kit just put the laping bars in and check to see if they need it, if they line up then no lapping is needed and rock on with that bad boy.

Hope this helps, more knowledgable members will be along shortly im sure

You shouldn't need to lap rings on a one piece mount. If you do, send it back. Never hurts to check it though.

There is no need to do it on NightForce Unimounts or rings. I tested them with the lapping bars and the centers of the cones come together straight from the factory.

The ones I have purchased from Rock River have all been ok, so maybe you got a bad one.

I would say yes it was bad because I had to lapp them but it's a small matter they are being replaced as we speak going back to a good set of high rings, I prefer rings and they are much lighter.

I lapped my addmount but found it didn't really need it. About all it dud was take the finish off. I can say the burris mount needs lapping, that one took some time to get cleaned up.

Thanks for the input fellas. I would hope if you pay $200 plus for a mount it should be just fine

Well I have.the lapping kit. It only takes a.few minutes. I check with the.alingment bars but I have found even those who are aligned if you start lapping you will see that there isn't full contact with the scope over the entire surface of the Rings. Just a little lapping corrects this.

Another effect is your windage adjustment will be much closer to center

Checking is fine... lapping can void the warranty on many of the higher-end scope mounts.

I always "check." But 99.6% of the time you will be fine.

Warranty? Scope rings? What possible warranty issue could you have with scope.rings

The kind where they would require lapping.

                            Or:
                            Breakage
                            Screws Stripping
                            QDs snapping

most people have no idea if their rings need lapping. If they are so out of alignment that a novice notices its probably not the rings but the installation.

If I were to break a ring or strip out a thread I would be embarrassed to send them back. I hope you would too!
