  • Review of Bushnell Elite Tactical 10x40. Don't miss the bargain.

Every other scope in their ET line is upwards of 600 bucks. They're all quite nice BUT, the 10x fixed power is about 200-250 street price new. Don't bother with the older 3200 Elite 10x40, make sure you get the Elite Tactical as they took features from the 4200 and 6500 lines and smushed them all together in the ET line. They put all the neato features and even Argon purging into the package but it's stupid cheap if you stay with the fixed 10x magnification.

10x40 is not a super flexible scope. Anything inside about 60 yards critter wise is going to fill the optic. The Mil-Dots have been very accurate during my ranging exercises and it shot the box well when I did that test. 80MOA of internal adjustment too. Optics are clear and bright but not perhaps as clear as a Mark-4 or a Zeiss. The reticle is etched. Rear focus worked fine. No really audible click on the turret adjustments but very positive notches and easy to read MOA markings.

    It's not a Nightforce. It's not a Mark-4. It's a great basic 10x scope with mil-dots for cheap. Enjoy!

would this be a decent scope for "load development" at 100 or 200 yards?

10x is plenty fine for load development and target engagement out to 800yds+, as long as the crosshairs are fine enough, and the resolution is sufficient. You also need a good focus, and I really don't like scopes where the focus only gives me varying degrees of fish-eye effect. I really prefer a good side-focus system.

I found that with just about perfect vision I had to spin the focus ring all the way in. It's what I've been using to do my load development on 3 different uppers. I think it's at home on the grendel though and will probably stay there. I'm fixin'a grab a Zeiss 3-9x40 since they're stupid cheap and I get a discount thanks to some family that works there so my 6x45 won't wear a .223 specific scope anymore. In any case, I've used 18x scopes for load dev and really any higher than 10x the heartbeat becomes distracting. My pops was a military sniper and he seemed to be satisfied with a straight 10x. Besides, with miils fixed 10x makes the math easy and eliminates the whole spinning to an index magnification to range then back to a shooting magnification for engagement.

I get to dial 10MOA out of it with an eccentric change (Burris signature series rings) tonight which puts me about 3MOA off the bottom at 100yrds.

Crosshairs are about .2 or thereabouts. It's not shown in the manual with the rest of the subtend info so that's based on it occluding the target a particular amount when I was last shooting on 1" grid targets.

I don't have that much knowledge about scopes. How does it compare to the super sniper standard 10x?

I think the original post was the review....more of a recommendation, though. As far as the price, just google it. Midway has it for $250.

I haven't had my mitts on a SWFA SS so I can't speak to that. It's every bit as good as my Leupold VX scopes optically. Yeah, it's more of a recommendation than a review. Other more qualified people have done proper reviews with photos and all that slick goodness. I can tell y'all that it is a superb scope for the price but lacks flexibility. The rest of the Elite Tactical line is upwards of 600 bucks retail so this is really the one option in their high quality line that qualifies as a bargain.

I'm curious as to how this compares to a SS. I dig the Super Snipers.

Turrets are a little bit mushy, but that's my only complaint.
