    Grendel Magazine for Prone shooting

What mags are you guys using for prone shooting?
I just got a few 17 round Elanders and 15 round ASC mags. Wondering if I need a 10 for prone/bipod/bench shooting or if the 15/17rd mags are fine.
    Thanks

I shot from the Prone with 17 round elanders last week.... no issues but, then again I use a rest, sandbag, or bipod and am never directly on the ground anyways.

I shoot prone with both my rifle and my pistol, with a Harris 9-13. I use both the 25 and 17 rounders from Elander, and have no issues.

Let me clarify that I use the Harris on my rifle, a bag for my Grendel pistol.

10 round C Products if you want to keep it as clear as possible.

When I shot over the course with a 6 AR or a Grendel, I used the ten round mags. The five round mags were hard to grab for a mag change and the 17 round mags came too close to digging into the ground.

I haven't had a problem with the 17 round E-landers in prone but they were used in conjunction with a bipod.

              Thanks for the responses
Sounds like it mite be worth getting a 10rd for using with a low bipod

Here is a picture of the 16” Faxon using the 6” Harris bipod. You can see the pistol grip is touching the step but the 17 round E-Lander magazine clears the flat surface. The Harris bipod legs are retracted so the rifle is setting as low as possible. The rear sling swivel on the butt stock is not setting on the step.

Here is a photo showing the clearance from the front. I’ve had no trouble shooting from the bench or prone with the 17 round E-Lander mags.

Over the years there have been numerous questions about 6.5 Grendel mags. I decided to take pictures of some of mags so forum members could actually see the differences.

The first photo is of a C Products magazine which are advertised as fifteen rounds but only will hold fourteen rounds. C Products was later taken over by ASC and both list the chambered round into their stated capacity. The photo shows a C Products mag next to a Brownell’s 20 round 5.56/223 magazine. The C Products mags are shiny black stainless steel and the Brownell’s mag are gray aluminum. Notice the different locations of the retention grooves in the sides of the two magazine because of the different size cases used between 5.56 and 6.5 Grendel.

                        4860960C-98AF-4A43-9762-3B4918F149BA

The next photo is a Brownell’s curved body aluminum 20 round 5.56/223 magazine. This pattern magazine was requested by Alexander Arms for use with the mid capacity 6.5 Grendel magazine. The curved body assist in stacking the 6.5 Grendel mags for more reliable function. Alexander Arms never sold the C Products or ASC 14 round mags as they did not meet AA specifications. The 14 round straight body 6.5 Grendel mags are probably the least reliable 6.5 Grendel mag if loaded to full capacity. The Aluminum 5.56 mag is pictured next to a CP 14 round mag and a Brownell’s straight 20 round 5.56 magazine.

The next picture is a 17 round E-Lander 6.5 Grendel mag next to a curved body 20 round 5.56/223 Aluminum magazine. For practical application both magazines are very close in size.

                        16CB651E-85F0-4F52-8D95-5AE57FF6A02E

The next photo shows the 20 round 5.56 sitting on top of the 17 round E-Lander 6.5 Grendel magazine. The only difference is the E-Lander 6.5 Grendel mag is slightly longer than the curved body 20 round 5.56 magazine.

Here are few more magazine comparison pictures.

This picture illustrates the different length between curved body 20 round 5.56/223 mag and 17 round E-Lander mag.

This is a photo of a ASC nine round 6.5 Grendel mag next to a fourteen round C Products mag next to a straight Brownell’s 20 round 5.56/223 mag.

More Pictures but these are the 24 round 6.5 Grendel mags compared to a aluminum NHMTG 223/5.56 magazine.

The first picture is the Aluminum 30 round NHMTG 5.56 mag next to a C Products 24 round shiny black stainless steel 6.5 Grendel magazine.

                            DF5FD4B6-C6D9-4599-BA6A-F7383D46FB69

The next photo is a C Products 24 round 6.5 Grendel mag next to an ASC 24 round matte finish 6.5 Grendel magazine. Both magazines are essentially the same but ASC switched finish and seemed to be a little better quality.

                            795FB811-6CAA-450A-85FA-D386EE120F72

The next photo is the C Products 24 round 6.5 Grendel mag on the left and a 24 round E-Lander mag on the right. C Products and ASC mags use blue followers marked 6.5 whereas the E-Lander use white followers. The CP, ASC and E-Landers are stainless steel but the E-Lander mags are heavier and use a captured floor plate design. The shiny finish is very similar in appearance in the C Products and E-Lander mags.

                            577E1F16-96EA-4E0E-AC7F-6DAEC804E2AF

Here is a picture showing the slight difference in length between a standard length 30 round 5.56/223 mag and the 24 round E-Lander mag. You can see the detent protruding through the floor plate of the E-Lander mag. The E-Lander mags appearance is a higher quality compared to CP or ASC.
