    New Hunting Scope

Alright guys, I need some help! My dad is wanting a new scope for his .270, strictly a hunting rifle. Here are the requirements:

    Good amount of eye relief
    Duplex reticle
More mag than his current 3-9x. 3 would still be okay on the low end, but he wants more than 9x on the top end. Any help would be awesome guys! Thanks in advance!

    What's the budget?
    What rifle?
    How much magnification? 12x, 14x?
What does he have now, what is he used to?

        I see your in texas.

So that means small body deer, 400 or less yards typically in Texas terrain.

Vortex diamondback hp 4-16 should do the trick very nicely on the old 270.

        Hope this helps sir.

It’s a deer rifle, probably no shots longer than 300-350 yards where we hunt. For a long time he had an old Leupold 3-9 on it, but it’s eye box was almost nothing, and the relief was terrible. He wants more magnification than 9x at the top end, probably more like 12x-16x at the top end. Still wants a simple duplex reticle though.
            See my first post.

Inside the budget tops out at 16x bottom 4x good clear glass and plenty of eye relieve

Uh depends on what part of Texas he plans on hunting.

You can't go wrong with a Leupold and he's already familiar with them.

Maybe the Rifleman 4-12x40? https://www.midwayusa.com/product/13...12x-40mm-matte That is a lesser model at $280 and more magnification doubles the price.

I like Nikon and Weaver in that price range.
Natchez has a Weaver Grand Slam (their best) 3-12x50SF on sale for $270. I bet this Weaver looks better than the Leupold as it's made in Japan (great glass) and 50mm should be brighter. https://www.natchezss.com/weaver-re-...cle-matte.html
I own one Weaver GS and it is a terrific scope for the money.

Actually Natchez has great prices on Weaver and Nikon and others.

Well, the best advice is to try out some excellent scopes for hunting. I used Nikon Prostaff, Nikon Buckmaster, Nikon Omega and Bushnell Elite 3200, all of which looked as if they were working and 3 x 940 mm. Each of them has more than enough light on the light, so connected to the 9X.

Leupold for me then vortex. Leupold has better low light. I am sticking with these 2 brands and trijicon scopes. I wont buy anything else because of warranty and how fast they are. Not to mention they fix in states and don't have to send it to Germany to get it fixed.

I still say a 4-16 vortex or a 4-20 Athlon argos both great scopes and great warrenty if needed.

Vortex, leupold, and Nikon scopes will serve you well. I seen not to long back some factory refurbished Nikon Monarch for like 50% off normal cost. Also another scope to consider is the cabelas covenant tactical SFP 6-26x.
