    6.5 Grendel is a 6x24x50 to much?

Thinking about the Vortex Viper HST 6x24, on a 18" Grendel.
    Is this to much zoom?
If that much only shows how cheap class looks, it would be kinda pointless.
They offer it in a 4x14x45.ish as well.
Looking at the mrad. SFP matched up @ 18x

I have a Riton 6-24x50 on my Grendel bolt gun, but it is 22" barrel on it. On my 18" I have a 4.5-18 Nikon. It all depends on what you plan to do with it.

I think the 6-24x50 is primarily a target scope. Six power on the low end reduces field of view for some hunting situations but would probably work for shooting ground hogs or prairie dogs. The size and weight of some 6-24x50 scopes is a disadvantage on a rifle which is going to be carried a lot. It really depends on how your going to use the rifle. I have a Vortex Viper 6.5-20x50 mildot on my 20” 6.5 Grendel. I primarily shoot the 20” 6.5 Grendel from the bench or prone. I put a Vortex Diamondback HP 4-16 on my 18” Faxon 6.5 Grendel. I use the 18” as an all purpose rifle and is more likely to be carried more and used in the field.

I basically built it because I wanted to. 😎
        Something to shoot longer range.
I have a 3x9 on my 223 and it never felt "to much"
If it was a 4x24, I wouldn't have even asked.
        It's the 6x I'm wondering about.
Wouldnt the 50mm len and 30 mm tube help with FOV?

How far is longer range to you?

You want enough magnification to be able to see your target. If you're aiming at steel plates at 1000 yards that 6-24x will probably be good. Many people shoot that far with less power.

That scope will be huge on an 18" AR. This is the 6-24x50mm Viper HS-T on my Ruger Hawkeye FTW.Ruger M77 FTW 001A.jpg

On the low end, what are you shooting? Hunting?

My 5-25x56 mk5HD leupy looks like the Hubble atop my 18” LaRue. I never even mounted it. I shot with an 18x out to 1000, and hits were easily visible. I’m not going to say that it’s too much, but it isn’t necessary for Grendel at all. My two pennies.

I will be putting a 6x24 on my Grendel build. So no I prefer high power scopes.

I have on on my 20”. It’s a Viper PST. Love it! You don’t have to dial it all the way but I have it if I need it.

I have a NightForce ATACR 5.5-25x56 on an 18" Grendel.

Albeit, not completely built yet but my answer is: No, I don't think it's "too much".

I'm looking to take this gun 1000+
