Need Weapon-Mounted Light

Got a nasty little 6.5 Grendel pistol with a red dot leaning in the bedroom closet in case there are any strange noises going bump in the night.

Need a recoil-resistant weapons light to mount on top rail near muzzle and be push-button operated.

Budget less than $100.

Would prefer a handheld light with a universal mount to attach to rail, but am open to dedicated weapon light.

Any recommendations from the Vile Unwashed of the Bloodstained Grendel Horde?

I got one of these and seems to be working. I have only shot it on the .223 a couple of times. Great light for getting to the stand though. For the price it worth a shot and so far I am pleased with it. YMMV

I have several Streamlight PolyTac tactical lights. The newer programmable version can be found for $50 or less and use two CR123 batteries. I use a 1 inch scope mount attached to a pic rail. Any long gun which might be used in low light has a weapon light attached. This is the light I use on my 12 inch 6.5 Grendel. Not to blinding for indoor use and good for at least 100 yards on a dark night.

Sir, I have had various weapon lights similar to , but not the olight pl-mini-2 specifically and they work great when testing them, but in that moment when you are peeking around the hall door into the living room about to confront an intruder and you push the switchy thingy, eneviably you only hear a click and nothing. Luckily the intruder was only mouse making more noise than a bull in a china shop! I now use a 2 C cell with multiple leds that I hold in my off hand besides, it makes a passible weapon in of itself. Something to think about if you are serious about the possibility of an intruder. A universal mount might work better for your purpose than hand holding it. Just my thoughts on the matter and yes, I have the rottenest luck when it comes to these things.

I second Popeye's recommendation. Got one with three LED's (red, green, and white). Works well for my use both short and long range up to 100 yds.

My thoughts are that the light needs to be powered by Li-ion given in high output torches they chew through CR123 batteries. If you don't have a line on tax-payer funded 123's then Li-ion rechargeables are the go (18650 is a popular size for a single cell flashlight).
1" in body to fit a weapon mount.
Glass outer lens for clarity and heat resistance (not plastic).
IP67 rated.
Last but not least, a weapon light needs throw, not spill. With LED pills being wider than incandescent light sources getting a tight beam to concentrate light is difficult. Lots of torches available with much of their usable light wasted on spill. Looking at lumens output is therefore a clumsy indicator of usable light and distance. There are new LEDs coming on the market with pills as small as 1mm which helps concentrate the light, with either a decent reflector or ashperical lens. The other technology helping with throw is Light Excited Phosphor (LEP).

The Welltool T11 uses the Osram KW CSM 1mm LED pill. While 750lumens is average for a Li-ion flashlight it is reportedly a really tight beam, so throws further than others. It's on the edge of your budget at $102. It uses a 21700 battery which is maximum power density in a 1" body. The battery has a micro USB charging port.

Your $100 budget is below the other, and more recent technology LEP, but worth a mention. They are not LED's but blue lasers that shine through a layer of phosphor to create a 3-degree beam of extremely focused white light. The Acebeam W30 is an example and the Acebeam W10 Gen II is their more compact but less powerful weapon version. There are a few illuminating Youtube videos reviews by the flashaholics. Like Sinclair is saying, shine this in their eyes in a house and it would be too bright to look back at. Inside rooms and the reflection off what it hits will give you the spill you need to see everything. Outside and it's a long range but very focussed light. If all you can see is the field of view in your scope then no light will be wasted in spill. I haven't used LEP so cannot comment other than to say this would be a good weapon mounted technology for taking long shots at night.
