    Opinion on Vortex scope

So, after test-fire and barrel break-in, I finally got the optic mounted on the new build. I really like the glass, however, I'm not crazy about the bronze/copper color of the body of the scope. In bright light the contrast is even more dramatic. I think the all-black Nightforce I have on my Armalite is much more aesthetically pleasing...at least to me. I know performance is the ultimate factor, and I'm probably being ridiculous, but the truth is it just doesn't look right me. Wondering if anyone else here thinks this scope looks wonky on the rifle, and if I should either Cerakote some of the rifle parts (lower receiver?) to match the scope, or paint the scope black.

    Thoughts?

My biggest objection to the Razor Gen2 is the weight, not the color. The Razor AMG is probably a better fit for the platform. Depending on how you use the rifle you might even want less scope, something with a 40mm to 44mm objective. I ended up with a LRHS 4.5-18 on my Grendel and it feels like the right size, the downside is I think think it runs out of glass IQ around 800 yards. The color of the scope is probably the least important factor of the scope to me.

How do you like the Lancer tube? I have kicked around switching to it from the SLR.

Your feelings on the look of the combo is the only one that matters, if you paint the scope and still don't like it, the scope would be harder to resell.
If you paint /cerakote the rifle its more expensive, and may not match if you make further changes down the line.

So what are you more likely to change out? The scope or rifle?

FWIW, That whole rig is sexy, and I am a big fan of the light bronze finish on that scope. Almost every scope is black, so it gives it a little more of a distinguished look in my opinion.

I like it. Only problem is, if I ever decide I dont like it, I'm stuck with it. It requires red Loctite to install...its basically cemented in place. I'm either gonna damage its proprietary nut or the receiver getting it off. But its rock-solid and very light.

Personally, I like everything about this build. I certainly sympathize with your initial assessment of the scope and I shared the exact same sediment when I received my first Vortex Razor Gen II. It has a very unique finish and doesn't really "go" with anything else, it stands on it's own. The configuration that you put together is actually one of my favorites with this tube. I have an all FDE rifle with this scope mounted in a DDC Geissele utilizing black flip caps and a gloss black level. There is a ton of color clash going on in a very small space. After a while though, the look grew on me and I don't even notice it anymore. That said, I don't understand why Vortex doesn't offer this tube in black.

Great job with this build. I think it turned out really nice regardless of what you end up settling on for a scope long term. If you really want... I have a Viper PST GEN II 5-25x50 with a 30mm mount that I'll swap for ya, even up.

                Thanks, guys.

I ordered the aerosol kit from Duracoat in this...

I'm going to add a few color touches to the rifle (trigger guard, cheek weld and bipod legs) and see how it turns out. Maybe Duracoat a magazine and see if I like it. If I dont like the color I'll take em back to black.

Changing the color sounds unnecessary to me.But,it’s not my rifle or my money that is being spent.Do whatever makes you happy. But,if it were me,I’d just”shoot the damn thing”.

                    +1.

Unless you have a tactical imperative then who cares what it looks like; it's a tool - function and outcome is everything.

No you can get the red loctite off without damaging things. I had a guy install his own accessories on a work rifle, using red loctite. I used a soldering iron placed directly in the middle of the screw and held it there for a few minutes... that combined with a heat gun on high and it was enough to soften the red loctite and let me get it loose without discoloring the anodized aluminum rail.

I feel like direct and localized heat with a heat gun will work... I think there's also a liquid solvent which might help...

Yeah, you're absolutely right. But this is my first build and I really wanted it to look as good as it performed. My brain is wired a bit differently. It's the same reason I obsessed over the rims/tires on my truck...at the end of the day they're just ******* wheels that make "the bus go round and round", but I probably changed my mind twelve times (and pestered every one of my friends to death asking them "which one do YOU like?") before settling on the final combination. OCD is a bitch, man.

I often hold my opinion to keep from coming off as a jerk, but since you put like you did ^^

I agree with you. I like the color but it looks unfinished with the scope a different color. Add the same color to the gun to bring it all together. I wouldn’t paint an upper end scope.

Good paint design is hard to pull off on a gun.

FWIW, I own a paint n body shop so I don’t throw out paint complements to just anybody.

I cant believe we're approaching year 2020 and there is still even a thing such as "vulgar words". Have we not evolved at ALL? I believe the USE of words is more vulgar than the words themselves. For instance I give you two different sentences...

Your sister is as fat as a cow and has a face like a donkey.

Your sister is F**king beautiful, man.

Which one is more offensive? Are we not intelligent enough here to discern the difference? I type the way I talk, and I think words like sh*t, fu*k, etc used in the PROPER CONTEXT add color to conversation. My comment wasn't "...obscene, vulgar, sexually-oriented, hateful, threatening, or otherwise violative of any laws." (per your rules), the F-word was simply used to add emphasis. I think censoring words on forum for adults is ridiculous, but whatever, man. It's your house, I dont want to give you any more reason to flex your moderator-muscle.
