Here is a socket soldered up. The finger-flick test works so it's off the the range for final proof. The shield/ground acts as a cable clamp and perfect size for the insulated vibration sensor.
I was obviously overthinking it with the other components. FRB's use of 3.5mm DIY plug as the housing is elegant simplicity. Ignore my first post and just go with his brilliant idea - thanks for that.
The Picatinny bubble clamp fits the female socket with a bit of drilling. Not enough room for the sensor inside so that will have to be glued to the outside.
