Vortex Viper PST mounting - LaRue or Burris?

Just received my Vortex Viper PST 2.5-10x scope...great scope (with military discount and fast turn from Liberty Optics). Viper PST will be the next scope I buy for future 260 Remington.

Leaning towards LaRue Tactical QD mount...but was wondering if anyone had the Burris quick disconnect. How do they compare?

I really liked the LaRue QD mount. Very solid and always went back on perfect.

Also, I sent Scott at Liberty Optics an email about the military discount on a Vortex Sparc.

    Thanks for the service review!

The Burris mounts are made in China, but are rock solid and well made. I own a P.E.P.R. and a set of their 30mm rings. I saw the Burris QD P.E.P.R. at the SHOT show. Cosmetically, they are not up to par to a LaRue or American Defense, but they will do the job just as well. I also own an American Defense mount and find it of the highest quality.

I have the Larue QD mount on my AR and love it. Rock solid and perfect return to zero. Either will work, but if you want to take it on and off to swap optics, clean or do work to the rifle, I'd go with the Larue.

Burris made in communist China, LaRue made in Texas. Any questions?

              Bjorn,

I personally like the LT-112, with 20 MOA built into it. I have yet to need the goose neck feature in any of the LT mounts I have previously bought, so the 112 is my go-to mount now.

I've ordered the LT-104 for my AA Entry with NF 3.5-15x56mm...it is as far forward as I can get it with Leupold rings but I need another .5 inch of eye relief.

I also ordered the LT-158 for my lightweight build (Viper PST)...I don't see a LT unimount without extension (gooseneck) on their website (even searched for your LT112).

You have to specifically ask for it. It's not advertised on the site. The LT-112 will give you a little reach forward from the base, but not like the LT-158 and other goose neck mounts. The LT-112 looks exactly like the LT-111, but has 20 MOA of cant.

If you are looking to save some cash and don't need QD, you can just order the mounts with the VFZ option, but I think the QD levers are worth it and very convenient.

+1 for the LaRue and QD levers. I have one and it returns to zero and is solid as a rock... Can't say enough good stuff about the product or the company..

+ 1 for LaRue.Tough, return to zero, very good customer support. It seems that LaRue hires ex-military (at least the ones I have talked to).Hey LRRPF52; I got a chuckle out of the "communist china versus made in Texas" comment. Also, good info on the various scopes. It appears you are military so thanks to you and all others for serving our country.

Here's another thing I like about LaRue: He gets all his staff out, regardless of what their administrative or mechanical specialties are, and has them run through a day or two of formal high-volume shooting with AR15's to understand the importance of their products. If every company would invite their employees to participate in the end-user experience with their products, we'd live in a different world for the better.

I just got back from the range, and had an opportunity to run a competitor's scope mount through its paces. Zeroed early in the morning, got a nice, tight cluster POA/POI, and proceeded to run the gun through numerous high-volume drills throughout the day. Temps were in the 90's, and we really heated the guns up. Before hitting the road, I just wanted to assess if the zero had shifted any, or if it was still good to go...

It was off by 2" to the right at 25yds, no elevation shift, and a tighter group than I shot in the morning. I now have to determine if it's the scope turret, the mount, or the barrel/upper combo, or maybe heat just did its thing. Gun is free-floated with Troy TRX Etreme 13", barrel is nitrocarburized 16" M4 profile, barrel nut was torqued, backed off, then torqued again 2x during installation, and the gun ran line a champ, with no malf's at all after 400+ rounds burned through it within 4 hours of shooting. I'm thinking it's either the scope or the mount, but since the elevation did not shift at all, that points more to the mount. I was actually really impressed with the mount, but now I'm unsure. I'll refrain from ID'ing the mount and optic until I get a better idea of what actually is going on, but I will say the mount is not LaRue.

I went with LRRPF52 and got a Larue LT-111. A little pricey, but you cant take it with you.

I think you might have done better getting the SPR-E

Bravo Company USA, Inc is your source for the highest quality parts, & tactical accessories for your AR-15, M16, M4 Carbine

It bugs me to have a scope hanging over the charging handle too much.

                            Especially with gloves on.

That's why I use the BCM Gunfighter Charge Handles with Medium or Large latch for guns with larger optics. I haven't encountered any snag issues to date, and I almost always shoot wearing kit, meaning my vest, VTAC sling, etc.
