    Howdy from CO

I grew up hunting and shooting in TX, but moved to CO about 20+ years ago.

It took a few trip back to TX over the last few years to get me back into hunting. Recently, I was in TX hunting hogs with my brother's .223 (Bushmaster) and really enjoyed it. This made me want my own AR 15. However, I wanted I little more oomph, and my OCD ways led me to the 6.5 Grendel and that brought me here.

I am looking forward to learning a few things and putting a new build together.

Focus will be on hunting with shots approximately up to 400 yards, but would also like to shoot steel out to around 800 yards.

I am open to a custom build. My search so far is making me lean towards 24" barrel, nickel boron BCG, carbon handguard, and Timney single stage trigger.

Welcome to the clan, SC, from the great nation of Texas! As you've found, the Grendel is an ideal choice for most anything south of the Canadian border. I concur with V2, above, you may find the 24" to be a bit unwieldy and the velocity loss to go to an 18" is negligable. Give it some thought.

Thanks for all of the replies. Definitely why I looked up this forum...to get some insight from guys that have been there and done it before with an AR 15 platform.
