My name is Harley, I am a native of Phoenix, AZ and after several moves about the country while serving in the US Army I found myself as what seems to be a permanent resident of Western Washington.
After 8 years I called it quits and am now a proud beat to shit OIF veteran (ETS'd in 2007). I have trolled this forum for a few weeks now and it seems that there are several veterans and members still serving. I spent my first enlistment as a 12B Combat Engineer (Sapper shit qualified! albeit before we could wear the tab) and then decided to reclass to something that may pay a good civilian wage, 52E (now 21P) Prime Power Production Specialist.
Thankfully some plans do pan out.
I am no stranger to the AR platform though I am admittedly a bit rusty. Looking to become a more active shooter in general (but particularly in long range precision marksmanship, something I have zero experience with) I started painfully researching what cartridge I wanted to base my rifle on.
I bounced around from a .223 Wylde to get started and eventually move on to a .308 Win only to change my mind and wind up here, firmly decided on the 6.5 Grendel.
If my skills ever warrant something capable of a longer range (distant future I am sure) it is highly unlikely to be an AR based rifle. I'd love to jump in with both feet and flaming credit cards and build a AI/Surgeon .300 Norma bolt gun but fortunately I can only half afford it and am only half stupid. I am nowhere near capable of operating such a rifle to even half of its potential.
Anyhow, I look forward to learning from all of you and Ill be posting where I am at thus far in the Build section of the forum.
