    New from Virginia

Hello from the mountains of southwestern Virginia! I've been wanting a Grendel in a light-weight bolt action for a long time but just didn't care for the few that were available. Last year I got my hands on a SS Sako 85 XS action and bought a finished walnut factory stock from Gun Parts Corporation. Once I had a barrel from Hart I sent the parts to my gunsmith last fall. I got the rifle back from him a few weeks ago. I put a Silver Ultralight Leupold 3 x 9 x 33mm scope on it, and it's all I hoped for. I haven't done a lot of load development yet but in my first set of OCW loads I had a 9/16" 3 shot group. I'm looking forward to using it for my primary deer rifle for mountain hunting in the Jefferson National Forest, which is just across the ridge from us.
My 7 year old grandson shot the rifle and liked it.

Welcome to the clan, Rnp, from the great nation of Texas! That is one beautiful rifle, you have done an outstanding job. But, you now have a problem, since you introduced the rifle to your grandson, what are you gonna shoot? I've lost several that way.

I have another 85 XS action in reserve.... Yeah, I'm looking forward to his first deer hunt! I got him a Chipmunk 22 several years ago, and the look on his face when he bagged his first squirrel was priceless!

RnP, it's an amazing thing, taking a grandson out to hunt with a rifle/shotgun for the first time. When they finally start to connect the dots and realize what you've been telling them all those years and it begins to actually means something. It opens up a whole new level of understanding that crosses generations, when they "get it". And, then we ( us grandparents ) also begin to develop some sense of relief that there may yet be hope.
