I have been a grendel shooter for a while. Started with an Aero “enhanced” set with an 18” Faxon barrel and Arken 4-16 scope. I recently bought a BCA bolt action upper in 6.5 Grendel and am loving it. This thing shoots everything great! Can’t wait to try it out on deer, varmints and predators. Then I got the bug for a legitimate bolt action and ordered a Ruger American Gen II, should be here tomorrow. Looking forward to getting the grandkids behind it! Getting pretty far down this rabbit hole. I also have a suppressor which makes it even more fun.

Welcome aboard! I think 6.5 Grendel is great to start kids out on since there is hardly much recoil, but you get a lot of performance on-target.
Start them out with lighter loads so they can self-spot more easily, though my 10yr-old has been shooting it quite a bit since he was 6 or 7 without issue.
I can pop open the tailgate on my SUV, and let him just get to it out-of-the-gate. He can be 1st-round hit on small plates at 400yds with both the 18” and 12” guns, using either memorized dope and dial turret or the tree reticle on the 12”.
It’s fun to teach them and then empower them to be more independent, solving the problems themselves.Last edited by LRRPF52; 11-28-2025, 03:48 PM.NRA Basic, Pistol, Rifle, Shotgun, RSO

Welcome to the clan, Ab, from the great nation of Texas. Looks like you have a pretty serious case of Grendelytus. There is no known cure but it can be subdued with serious applications of gunpowder. The upside is that the euphoria created by this might have a tendency to increase a happy lifespan. Enjoy !

Yes, you could say I’ve got a good case of Grendelytus . I’ve even tried it’s offspring, the 6 arc and the 22 arc. Didn’t have the good luck with those that I had with the Grendel. I have three different AR barrels for the six arc and can’t get any of them to shoot right. 22 works a little better but not as accurate as the Grendel.
