I guess that means if I ever go to Virginia I'll be breaking some law.

Does anyone know if Virginia issues carry permits to non-residents?

How is it that states recognize driver's licenses, which are a privledge, from other states, but do not recognize a RIGHT to keep AND bear arms?

I agree with this. Remember that police do not prevent crime. Police collect evidence to help present an objective case in court on behalf of the victim or their family. Fearful they are of Free Men.

No this is from experience, the last part was meant to be humorous. Unless the criminal is right there such as domestic violence most cases are officers collecting edevience for a court to decide. It's just how it works, there simply are not enough police to be right there if a crime is happening to you. I think it is rediciolus to revoke resiprocity for CCW carriers from other states as they are law abiding citizens. A more sensible solution would to create a national CCW good in all states. This however would not work by the design of the United States in that it can and would be disputed on infringement of state rights.

How so? While the majority of LEOs probably get into the profession with the intentions to protect the community and prevent crime, that is not their job. A police force can not prevent crime in a free society, they can only respond to it in a way that deters it in the future. Unless we are to surrender our liberties for the perception of safety.

A LEOs statement of work is the enforcement of the laws that the politicians of the state has crafted and the local ordinance's regulations. Luckily most hold themselves to a higher standard than that and go above and beyond.

Long story short, your safety is in your hands and your hands alone. It's your job to protect yourself and your family. And if you're lucky the LEOs will get there in time to be your backup.

Ah, I see what you mean now. Police do prevent a large amount of crime simply by their existence, but lets get back to the topic. As far as Virginia CCW is concerned I agree with bwaites in that this is just them trying to squeeze more money out of those of us who carry legally.
