I'd scanned a couple of articles on the subject.
Things are really super sketchy in Australia. The covid restrictions have been getting increasingly more intense, as a result two weekends ago massive protests started. However, this past weekend thousands of police were deployed in rings around metropolitan areas to stop people from assembling to protest. At the same time this past weekend, Google blocked […]

Did government credibility die of Covid or with Covid?

Tyranny could never happen in any modern democratic nation, was all I heard for decades by anti gun zealots who used this excuse to repeal the 2ndA..I guess their reasoning just turned south and I wasn't just a paranoid gun nut as they claimed lol..
Sounds reasonable to arrest pregnant woman for planning a protest on social media, seizing children from parents and entering homes without a warrant, forcing people to stop engaging with others in conversations, forcing people to wear a mask indoors and out and controlling unvaccinated people. How dare people think they should have a say in what is injected into their bodies.. . Oh wait, I forgot that was reasonable in Nazi Germany, not modern democracies.
Thanks for the heads up. I didn't know Australia had become a sister state to the Taliban...

I've been following it since early in the summer in an attempt to see if ADI will ever produce a meaningful amount of powder again. The good news is Shooter's World Precision is in some ways better than Varget, and I'm close to having it work with 130s in 6.5 CM so I don't have to worry about H4350 either.
The scary thing is the rumours that the government may try to suspend elections because it is too unsafe to vote.Let's go Brandon!

They are also building quarantine facilities outside of their cities. If you get exposed to the Chinese Virus (or the government thinks you may have been exposed to the Chinese Virus), you get a free 2-3 week stay. Whether you like it or not. I've heard them referred to as Vax-itration camps. Google is suppressing articles about them, so I can't find a link, but this is what Google will let me find. https://www.vic.gov.au/victorian-quarantine-hub
The scary thing is that they have been using hotels. But by building special purpose facilities, they are expecting this to go on for quite some time. The idea of course is to offer their citizens a more comfortable quarantine experience.Let's go Brandon!

The ADF help State governments on occasion during natural disasters. The guys are not armed. It is called aid to the civil power. Your military does this as well I gather (e.g. Hurricane Katrina).
Aid to the civil power where weapons are involved and the potential to shoot Oz citizens is a whole different ballgame however. State police are required to request assistance and the Feds 'hand over' control to the military. If on federal property or high seas then the ADF are the first responders. We used to work with the State tactical response groups, housed in our own holding areas near the target. Our snipers would be in the field with police snipers ready to act if control was handed over. The state TRG's are pretty good however so unless it is a difficult or sensitive situation they handle it, or specialist entry (e.g. explosives or aircraft entry) is required. Examples would be embassies, ships underway and your bases on our soil.
I find it amusing you think our systems area at fault when they are working just fine. Where I am I couldn't catch the Virus if I tried. It is stopped at the border.

So, are these 'relocatable cabins' like our FEMA trailers? Best test 'em for formaldehyde before occupancy...I refuse to be victimized by notions of virtuous behavior.

Yes, the hotel quarantine idea is a dodgy one and on that we agree. Not so much the use of hotels but that they are all in the middle of capital cities. Only the Northern Territory is using a purpose-built asylum/quarantine facility outside Darwin that was built before the Pandemic. If there is something Australia is not short of it is space so you'd think small tent cities could be quickly erected on airport property or even outside the city. It is not as if the country has not had a pandemic before. There are several derelict quarantine facilities for Spanish Flu in all cities near, but remote from the CBD. Although thousands have been processed through the hotels almost all the outbreaks have come from either city hotels or hospitals.
I imagine the relocatable cabins will be 'Dongas' which are de-mountable simple buildings used at minesites and transportable on the back of trucks. Not exactly 5-star but probably no Formaldehyde. Too late for a couple of East coast states as Delta has taken a foothold. Our state will be infected eventually and the holiday will be over.

Our police are like the Taliban? LOL. I know which group you would prefer to be arrested by.
Anyone who disobeys lawful directions in a selfish display of righteousness needs to be arrested and fined: Vegans, anti-vaxers, extinction rebellion, right-wingers, indigenous troublemakers and the tin foil hat brigade were the mix of those protests reported in the media. By all means protest when there is no Lockdown but when there is they need to be dealt with. And if they are going to target police horses then they need to be hurt badly. It is community discipline and cooperation that has helped keep the Virus out for so long. When the Virus eventually gets out of control and infects the community then they can protest all they like (peacefully).

Let's see...
Vaccines available.
Therapeutics available.
Preventatives available OTC.
And even without any of that, the survival rate is 99.howmany8's%, or about the same as any flu bug, or head lice infection (children) or being killed by an airplane...?
WOW. Sounds like a real huge, life threatening disaster like 8.9 earthquake or massive typhoon... or something dangerous!!!!! What do they do down there when a REAL crisis hits.
Enough that the right to assemble and protest (petition the government), the right to be secure in your home from unreasonable search and seizure, the right of free speech, no arrest until you have broken a law-had the right to counsel-seen the charges against you, and the right to keep and bear arms..... o wait, that's right--- Guess Aus doesn't have any of those rights. Gee I'm sure glad you are so content with the loss of/vacancy of individual rights!
Sounds pretty fascist in the most historical sense. Or national-socialist. But hey, if y'all like it, no worries from me! Power to the Rulers!!! Go for it.
So the Aus army/defense force etc is deployed, similar to our National guard, right? Watch it now, you heard it here first, pretty soon they will adopt Al Capone's words: "You can get a whole lot farther with a kind word and a gun than you do with just a kind word."
Add to that portable concentration camp "hotels".... guess the govt is in it for the long haul.
Maybe they are just portable "re-education centers". Like Xi would do."Down the floor, out the door, Go Brandon Go!!!!!"

Forgot to add a couple of favorites pics:

This last one reminds me of the posters in WWII, when real invading armies were storming across Europe and the the Pacific, killing, imprisoning, "encamp"ing, exploiting, re-educating, enslaving...
Or even what Saddam used in Iraq to keep his enemies in his crosshairs."Down the floor, out the door, Go Brandon Go!!!!!"

GF,
Societal rights and priviliges are obviously different between our countries.
No we don't have the right to bear arms, only privilege. And only 3% of our population (700K) are gun owners. We do not derive a cultural sense of self from gun ownership, even though like you, guns were used to tame the indigenous population and provide food in the early days of settlement. You will find that most gun owners actually want the government to control firearms. To keep them out of the hands of nutters and extremists. For the most part we trust our government and have never had a civil war to doubt them. The concept of Gert Hofstede's 'individualism' is stronger in your society than ours. In Australia it is more 'we' and less 'me'. Almost no one is out there wandering the streets with guns. I am one of the lucky few who get to use military AR's on a regular basis. I leave my house unlocked most days and nights and I live in a city. There is crime here but to the degree that my house has never been broken into since moving in in 96'. We don't much care who gets voted in or out and accept democracy, and not just when it is in our interests. Life is pretty good and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
The National Guard is akin to the Australian Army Reserve. The ADF who are currently assisting the Police in Covid control are full-time. Hotel guards, airport control and checkpoints during Lockdowns. The static guarding done by the ADF frees up the Police to fight crime.
'Re-education centres of president Xi', Fascists? Both you and Montana have a healthy imagination, and an unhealthy paranoia. You've got to admit, it is pretty funny.

It is always about "me" when it comes right down to it.
