Things are starting to make more sense now. I had no clue that Piers Morgan was neck-deep in the tabloid journalist phone-hacking scandal in the UK. Why would a tabloid writer & editor from England be spending most of his time in the US now, you ask?
In November 2012 Morgan was criticised in the official findings of the Leveson Inquiry, when Lord Leveson stated that comments made in Morgan's testimony about phone hacking "clearly prove is that he was aware that it was taking place in the press as a whole and that he was sufficiently unembarrassed by what was criminal behaviour that he was prepared to joke about it.
If you haven't heard of the Leveson Inquiry, it's one of the largest scandals in a scandal-obsessed UK, where tabloid journalists were hacking people's phones with the support of their companies to gain access to celebrities, politicians, and high-profile types in order to generate material for stories. Looks like Piers Morgan was so deep in it, that he was called as a key witness during the inquiry, where he remained in the US and testified via webcam. Kinda nice to take advantage of the safety here in the US, rather than face the music in-person.
The plot thickens...
In 1994, aged 28, he was appointed editor of News of the World by Rupert Murdoch, becoming the youngest national newspaper editor in more than half a century. He quickly gained notoriety for his invasive, thrusting style and lack of concern for celebrities' privacy, claiming that they could not manipulate the media to further their own ends without accepting the consequences of a two-way deal.
Murdoch's media conglomerate is the focus of the scandal known as "Hackgate", where they even bribed police, accessed voicemails of dead 9/11, 7/7, and deceased British Iraq/Afghan Vets. Piers Morgan is like a son to him.
My impression: Piers is cooling off for a while as the smoke clears from the phone-hacking scandal back in England. Murdoch is described as the spymaster, and Morgan as one of his minions.
Holy crap, the more I read about Piers Morgan's past, the more scandals surface. He engaged in insane levels of insider trading, with his own publications being involved in promoting the financial products he was investing in, where he even emptied out his and his wife's bank accounts to turn a massive profit. He was fired from being the Director of The Daily Mirror after they published photos of British soldiers committing war atrocities against Iraqi prisoners. The photos were terrible fakes.
Status update: Over 101,000 signatures to deport Piers Morgan.
On a humorous note: there is also a petition there to keep him in US...with only 8,000 votes. I guess he can't use the 310 million want him to stay here any longer...LOL

Alex Jones (Infowars.com), who started the "deport Piers Morgan" petition, went on air with Piers Morgan...you can watch the comedy here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtyKofFih8Y

I'm not personally a big fan of Alex Jones...because of his 9/11 conspiracy garbage. But I do agree with his stance/reporting on DHS, TSA and his pro gun stance. It was nice to see Piers being shouted over (like he routinely does to his guests who are pro 2A).
However, they intend to use his appearance against pro-gunners. It would have been better if he had avoided all his conspiracy theories. It was a setup to discredit ALL pro 2A folks. Piers was quickly on the phone to Politico (Obama pravda machine) discussing the interview: http://www.politico.com/blogs/media/...es-153617.html
Piers "J.A." Morgan - "He was the best advertisement for gun control you could wish for," Morgan told POLITICO.
