Any feedback on the new 18" 6.5G heavy barrel?

Hi. just wondering if anyone's tried it out yet. Looks like a very interesting design. It's a bit like a Mk.12 barrel chambered for 6.5G. I'm talking about this barrel for anyone not sure:

For the most accurate 6.5 Grendel AR15 barrels at the best price, shop for expertly-crafted, affordable AR 6.5 Grendal barrels that won't break your budget at Rexus Outfitters.

I'm curious about general group size comparisons vs. the standard 18" Monster/Rexus barrel... if BluntForceTrauma or anyone else has something to share.

I'm pretty set for Grendel uppers now, but my nephew recently returned from a visit with our cousin in TX where some fun shooting of AR15s was had by all, and he (nephew) asked me to advise him on putting together an AR in 6.5G.

We have some general things to go over, since my nephew's never owned a firearm before. It's a big responsibility. Kinda like getting a dog LOL. But anyway, I was eyeing the latest products on Rexus.com and saw those barrels. Seems like that might be a good start on a general purpose rifle with the capability for longer reach.

BluntForceTrauma, maybe you can answer a question for me. What's the exact diameter of this barrel out at the end, just shy of the threaded part? I figure it's probably .73" or .74" maybe? But I wanted to make sure.

Thanks. That size is fine for the thread protector we're thinking of:

I'm a big fan of these for certain rifles. Once they're on the barrel it almost looks like it was made w/o threads. I hate those knurled protectors.

And if nobody's used these barrels yet (and seen my question), we might be the first to report back. Who knows. For the asking price, if it doesn't work out to our satisfaction, it won't be too much of a loss. We'll try something else. Wilson Combat maybe, or jump up to one of PF's more affordable offerings.

I'm a big fan of Downrange Products thread protectors, as well. I've got four of the smooth versions, but in shiny stainless steel. Looks cool on a black barrel.

I have the 20" heavy barrel so maybe I can help. I bought a Rexus bolt the same time I got the barrel. The barrel and bolt are very nicely made. You will spend some time cleaning nitride residue salts out of the bore though.
So far I've only got 94 rounds through it of Hornady Black, SST and some different handloads that I had worked up for a couple of Grendels I had some years back. So far it's a solid MOA shooter with most anything I have tried. Accuracy seems to be improving and I suspect it will be a lot better when I actually develop some loads for it instead of just throwing stuff at it.

Well, my nephew said he ordered that barrel from you today, along with a few other items. Like the BCG.

Quick question: Do you happen to have one of these Aero handguards? The 15" in FDE. I think he wants one of those as well. Didn't see this length on your site.

Thanks for the feedback. yep. I'm familiar with the gunk in the nitrided barrels; I've got one of the 16" SixFiveArms barrels. Had to do a bit of initial cleaning with it also.

Nice group there. Sharp looking rifle.

I told my nephew, John, to begin acquiring ammo. Some Hornady Black, maybe some of Precision's SMK loads. To see what it likes.

Thanks. Wasn't sure. He was having trouble finding on online. Ended up ordering a BCM Alpha rail, which are also really nice. Just tricky to install. I have a couple and finally discovered the propane torch technique. I'll be installing it.
