SAAMI spec says twist is 1:7.5. Ran that through Berger's Twist Rate Calculator and it will stabilize a 6mm 110gr with muzzle velocity 2600 fps.

Seems a well-thought out factory chambering.

100% sure it's Hornady. Their fingerprints are all over this.

A5 and Greyfox, I am quite sure you could do that, but if I were doing it the bullet would be jammed into the lands to hold the base against the bolt face. I know even on some AI variants for fireforming that is recommended for improved brass life of the fireformed brass. Essentially in that case you are headspacing in you chamber off the bullet not the case.

But your brass would wind up being short in the neck. Doubt that would be an issue but would be the result.

Yah, me personally, I wouldn't be into doing that one. But it is interesting to think about. I would worry about inducing too much fwd casing expansion, I didn't like when a couple of my early Grr barrels stretched cases 0.018 from original to 1.527... just too much spandex for my taste!

I agree with that. I did the math using Berger 6mm 109gr dimensions as a stand-in and it makes perfect sense.

Ok so something that came to mind last night.

With the shoulder pushed back like it is. Wouldn't that make it basicly a 6ppc again? Only with a shorter neck then the 6ppc as we know it.

.03 shorter than the Grendel and .05 longer than the PPC so it falls in between the two.

I wonder if this is intended for long range bolt action use ala PRS as a factory alternative to all the 6mm wildcats currently used?

Who, Arp? (Yawn) nice to know, but I'll wait to see what Hornady (or whoever) comes up with first.
As to bolt action, it could see some good use there. What works for LR shooting also works for hunting, in the right rifle setup. But designing it to fit into an AR mag, AR would probably be the first to come out.

One thing I'll say for Hornady, and Ruger for that matter, is they have been good at bringing out stuff for the larger "regular-guy" market vice strictly the PRS crowd... although they do have stuff for them too.

Uh, Mr. Beene may be unmentionable and banned on AR15.com, but here he's only banned.

At any rate, it's possible my MONSTER barrels have already ordered tooling for 6mmARC, in case Hornady gets serious about it. Which lengths are you guys interested in?
